Honda Integra Targa: The Modern CR-X Dazzling in Guangzhou
The new Prelude hybrid coupe is currently stealing the spotlight in Honda’s lineup. Nevertheless, another model is vying for attention at the Guangzhou Auto Show in China.
This concept is built upon the hatchback version of the Integra. This model is GAC Honda’s counterpart to Dongfeng Honda’s Civic in the Chinese market. The front and rear ends remain mostly stock.
The center section, conversely, tells a completely different story. The roof has been removed and the rear doors have been deleted. The front doors are now longer and frameless. This alteration is dramatic compared to the base car.
Continuing with the design, the B-pillar has been pushed rearward and thickened. This creates a reinforced cocoon around the cabin’s back half. The rear quarter windows and glass hatch appear largely untouched. This preserves the flow of the Targa profile, recalling earlier open-top Hondas.
Homage to the Classic CR-X del Sol and Exclusive Details
The Integra study captures a hint of the 1990s Honda CR-X del Sol’s spirit. Its proportions, however, come across as awkward. The concept sits on white multi-spoke alloy wheels. These wheels match the paintwork.
Details include red mirror caps. This is a nod to the Integra Anniversary Special Limited Edition introduced last year. Photos also reveal that the drop-top Integra is equipped with the six-speed manual gearbox. The transmission setup points to the 1.5-liter turbocharged VTEC engine. This engine produces around 180 hp (134 kW / 182 PS).

Exhibition Strategy and Market Limitations
GAC Honda has not released official information about the vehicle. This implies it was built mainly as a showpiece. The target is the Guangzhou Auto Show rather than a preview of future production. The biggest obstacle is the market itself.
Two-door coupes and convertibles remain a narrow niche in China. Turning a concept like this into a viable product would be a tough sell.
