The Cadillac CT4 Is Gone: Is a GM Sedan Revival on the Horizon?
General Motors ends the CT4, but new sedans could excite traditional car enthusiasts.

General Motors has made a bold move in the automotive world by announcing that the Cadillac CT4 will be discontinued after the 2026 model year, pushing sedans to the brink of extinction within the American brand’s lineup. However, the news isn’t entirely negative: GM promises to replace the CT5 with a new sedan in the coming years, while rumors suggest the company may develop multiple variants of its next sedan platform.
GM Plans a Smart Sedan Comeback
According to GM Authority, the Detroit automaker is reportedly working on several versions of its new sedan platform, capable of housing combustion engines. While details remain unclear, this opens the door to new CT5 versions, a possible revival of iconic models like the Buick Grand National, or even the arrival of a highly anticipated new Malibu.
GM’s strategy may be influenced by its competition. Stellantis has recently doubled down on its combustion lineup, and GM could follow suit. Cadillac’s new platform will not only allow gas engines but could also accommodate a powerful V8, exciting both brand enthusiasts and fans of high-performance cars.
Currently, GM plans to build these new models at its Grand River Assembly plant in Lansing, Michigan, where it currently produces Cadillac sedans. Maximizing production will be key, and a single sedan model won’t be enough to keep the factory running at full capacity. This suggests GM’s plans could include multiple new sedans to diversify its offerings and keep the spirit of traditional cars alive in the era of SUVs and crossovers.
Although sedan sales are no longer what they once were, the fact that GM is not completely abandoning this segment represents a ray of hope for lovers of classic and sports cars. The coming years could mark a revival of American sedans, combining tradition, power, and cutting-edge technology–something any motor enthusiast, even in the world of Formula 1, will truly appreciate.
