In a market dominated by Chinese compact SUVs like the Omoda 5, JAECOO 7, MG ZS, or EBRO s700, some models still deserve attention. The Subaru Crosstrek is one of them: a crossover with permanent 4×4 traction, X-Mode traction control, hill descent assist, and 220 mm of ground clearance, allowing it to behave more like a light off-roader than a conventional urban SUV.

Efficient engine and solid performance

Under the hood, the Crosstrek features a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter boxer engine combined with a mild hybrid system producing 17 HP and a 0.57 kWh battery. The result is 136 HP and 182 Nm, delivered via Subaru’s well-known Lineartronic automatic transmission with paddle shifters. Its performance is adequate for long trips: 0-100 km/h in 10.8 seconds and a top speed of 198 km/h, while the official combined fuel consumption is 7.7 liters per 100 km, comparable to the most popular Chinese SUVs.

Practical design with minor limitations

At 4.50 meters in length, the Crosstrek offers 315 liters of trunk space, a modest figure compared to some urban SUVs but sufficient for weekend trips. The difference with Chinese competitors is minimal, and the added value of all-wheel drive and Subaru’s reliability more than compensates for this minor limitation.

Well-equipped as standard

The base Active trim includes dual-zone climate control, keyless entry and start, LED headlights and taillights, tinted windows, an 11.6-inch touchscreen, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and 17-inch alloy wheels. In terms of safety, it features traffic jam assist, lane-keeping assist, traffic sign recognition, and blind-spot monitoring. All these features make the Crosstrek a modern and complete option without breaking the bank.

Subaru reliability as a guarantee

Beyond performance and equipment, Subaru is synonymous with proven global reliability, consistently ranking highly in customer satisfaction studies. At a price of €32,500, the Crosstrek offers a combination of robustness, 4×4 capability, and modern technology, making it highly competitive against Chinese SUVs, especially for those seeking safety, durability, and versatility.
