Volkswagen and Disney team up for ‘Zootopia 2’: an electric and humor-filled collaboration

Volkswagen’s new electric models come to life in Disney’s highly anticipated sequel, merging sustainable mobility with family entertainment.

The animated world of Disney and the German engineering of Volkswagen unite in a collaboration as unexpected as it is creative. The two companies have announced a special partnership for the release of “Zootopia 2”, hitting theaters on November 26. The highlight of this alliance is the appearance of three animated vehicles inspired by Volkswagen’s fully electric ID.3, ID.4, and ID.7 Tourer models, each redesigned to match the film’s visual style and humor. The collaboration is part of a global 360° marketing campaign aimed at strengthening the emotional connection between the brand and its audience.

“Wolfswagen”: a clever nod to Wolfsburg

In the sequel, Volkswagen will appear under the playful name “Wolfswagen”, a witty reference to the brand’s headquarters in Wolfsburg and a perfect example of the franchise’s characteristic humor. One of “Zootopia’s” enduring charms has always been its ability to reflect our real world through clever satire, and Volkswagen’s inclusion promises to add an extra layer of fun. Ahead of the premiere, Volkswagen released a 30-second ad spot now airing in cinemas, on TV, and across social media, featuring “Zootopified” versions of the ID models and a brand-new song by Gazelle, the pop star character from the film.

Christine Wolburg, Volkswagen’s Global Brand Director, emphasized that this partnership strengthens the brand’s emotional storytelling: “Zootopia 2 shows how important it is to challenge prejudices and explore new paths together in an entertaining way. These are values that Volkswagen also embodies.” Her statement underlines the company’s goal of linking electrification with optimism and positive values, moving beyond the purely technical narrative.

This isn’t Volkswagen’s first venture into the cinematic universe. The German automaker has previously collaborated with Star Wars (“Obi-Wan Kenobi”) and Marvel (“Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania”), featuring its electric models as part of the global marketing push for the ID. Buzz. Now, its partnership with “Zootopia 2” blends humor, sustainability, and technology — three pillars of the brand’s modern identity.

In markets such as Germany, the campaign extends to special leasing promotions for models like the Golf, ID.7 Tourer, and T-Cross. This strategy showcases how Volkswagen leverages the synergy between entertainment and electric mobility to engage new audiences, particularly younger consumers. “Zootopia 2” promises not only a fun animated adventure but also a celebration of the electric future — with unmistakable German flair.
