Urban SUV Comparison: The Renovated Kia Stonic Challenges the Veteran SEAT Arona After its Update
Urban SUVs maintain their position as one of the most competitive segments in Europe. This is primarily due to their more accessible prices compared to compact all-roaders and constantly improving equipment.
The Kia Stonic 2026 presents a significantly updated exterior design compared to its predecessor. For instance, the front end has been refreshed with redesigned LED headlights and a new light signature very similar to the Sportage and the EV family. The bumpers were also modified. At the rear, the car incorporates a new tailgate and taillights with a new light signature. Finally, 16 or 17-inch alloy wheels complete its aesthetic transformation. The dimensions remain virtually unchanged, measuring 4.14 meters long.
Similarly, the SEAT Arona 2026 retains its proportions but updates its style. Consequently, it incorporates Full LED headlights, a redesigned grille, and modified bumpers. The model has available wheels up to 18 inches, new colors, and a contrasting roof in black or Manhattan Grey. Its dimensions are identical to the previous model, at 4.15 meters long.
Interior: Stonic’s Digital Dominance Versus Arona’s Practicality
The Stonic 2026 undergoes a notable generational leap inside. The cabin now incorporates two 12.3-inch screens, which replace the previous analog-digital instrument panel and the small 8-inch monitor. In addition, a new touch panel for the climate control and multimedia functions has been added. Perceived quality improves thanks to new materials. The vehicle offers technology like the Kia Connect multimedia system, digital key, and wireless charging pad. The trunk capacity, at 352 liters, remains consistent with the B-SUV segment.
Conversely, the Arona 2026 maintains its predecessor’s interior design but duly updates its digital components. The central screen varies from 8.25 to 9.2 inches depending on the trim level. However, the 10.2-inch digital instrument panel is configurable. The model retains physical controls for climate control. A strong point is its space for rear passengers, as well as its 400-liter trunk, which places it at the top of the segment.
Powertrain Options: Mild Hybrid vs. TSI Power
Kia uses the 1-liter three-cylinder T-GDI turbocharged gasoline engine. This block is available in two versions: a non-electrified 100 hp and a new mild hybrid (48 V system) with 115 hp. Both are combined with a six-speed manual gearbox. Conversely, the more powerful version can be paired with the seven-speed DCT dual-clutch automatic transmission. The MHEV system does not allow electric driving, but it supports the engine during acceleration. Consequently, this reduces consumption and allows the engine to shut off while coasting.

SEAT offers a gasoline range consisting of two TSI engines. This includes the 1-liter three-cylinder block with 95 and 115 hp. Moreover, the most powerful option is the 1.5-liter four-cylinder with 150 hp, exclusively available with the seven-speed DSG automatic transmission. The 115 hp engine can also be combined with the DSG gearbox. Nevertheless, the absence of mild hybrid versions with the Eco label will end in 2027.
Pricing: A Slight Initial Advantage for the Stonic
The Kia Stonic 2026 starts its price, including discounts, at 19,185 euros for the T-GDI 100 CV Concept version. In addition, the top-spec option, the T-GDi MHEV 48V GT-Line 7DCT, reaches 26,120 euros, also with promotions. For its part, the SEAT Arona 2026 has an entry cost of 19,460 euros, including offers, for the 1.0 TSI 95 CV Arona + variant. However, the most exclusive model is the 1.5 TSI DSG FR +, priced at 25,489 euros.
