The Non-Negotiable Roar: The 650 HP Temerario Super Trofeo That Defies Hybridization

By  |

Lamborghini bows to regulations with its road models, but competition follows the pure formula. The Huracán’s successor on the track is all V8 power with no electric assistance.

Electrification is an unavoidable necessity, even for manufacturers like Lamborghini. Strict emission regulations mandate that all their road models be hybrid. However, the brand’s competition machines maintain the traditional formula. These vehicles completely dispense with any electric assistance. Therefore, while the road-going Temerario is hybrid, its racing brother is a pure combustion machine

V8 Twin-Turbo Heart: Pure Power Without Assistance

Following the Temerario GT3, the new Super Trofeo also foregoes hybridization. Thus, Lamborghini has developed a powerful Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) version. This model is the natural successor to the Huracán in the one-make championship. The new engine is a V8 twin-turbo, abandoning the classic naturally aspirated V10. In its Super Trofeo configuration, it develops 650 HP of maximum power.

Power is sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed sequential gearbox. This replaces the dual-clutch automatic transmission of the road model. The Super Trofeo shares the Hoer transmission and certain components with the GT3. The power is immense, albeit 150 HP less than the gasoline engine in the road-going Temerario.

Featherweight and Extreme Aerodynamics on the Track

By eliminating the complex hybrid system, Lamborghini achieves brutal weight reduction. The road car is 390 kg heavier than the GT3 version. This difference is due to insulation, comfort features, and the hybrid all-wheel-drive setup. The Temerario Super Trofeo is a lighter, more agile racing machine. The KW sports suspension and the 12-point adjustable traction control complete the dynamic package.

The Super Trofeo sports a much more aggressive body kit. It is crowned by a huge rear wing for maximum downforce. Inside, safety is paramount. It features a fully integrated, FIA-compliant roll cage. The dashboard is covered with Dinamica Infinity, an innovative suede.

The Exclusive RWD and the Promise for the Street

Currently, the rear-wheel-drive configuration is exclusive to the circuit. Nevertheless, CEO Rouven Mohr has already hinted at an RWD special edition homologated for the street. Knowing the brand’s history, a registrable all-wheel-drive variant seems inevitable. Just as the Huracán gave rise to the savage STO, an equivalent Temerario is expected. The Super Trofeo championship will not begin roaring until the 2027 season.
