The Lada Niva Travel: A Pure Off-Roader with 4×4 and Reduction Gear that Costs 14,500 Euros

By  |

The Niva Travel represents the modern evolution of the iconic Russian SUV, maintaining its intact off-road capabilities at an extremely low price. This model is positioned as an ideal substitute for compact and capable vehicles in the 4×4 segment.

Everyone remembers the Lada Niva Legend as a spartan, but incredibly durable off-roader with a really low price. Today, that mythical 4×4 is still on sale in its native country, Russia, with the Legend surname. Nevertheless, the Niva Travel is a more modern Niva with very good off-road qualities.

The Niva Travel can be considered a natural evolution towards the SUV world, but it retains the typical off-road capabilities of a true SUV. The approach is excellent, making it a perfect substitute for the Suzuki Jimny. This Russian model measures barely 4.09 meters and its wheelbase is just 2.45 meters. Therefore, the most broken and steep areas should not generate mobility problems for the vehicle.

Off-Road Performance and Specific Equipment

In addition, the driver has all-wheel drive with a reduction gear and central differential lock. This allows the mechanical force to be distributed 50% between both axles. The Niva Travel’s ground clearance reaches 22 centimeters. If a puncture occurs, the driver has a full spare wheel hung on the tailgate.

Indeed, the off-road equipment is more than generous in the Comfort Off-Road trim. Furthermore, this trim adds Michelin X-Ice North 4 tires, a snorkel, and underbody protections to the fifth tire. The interior certainly has a clear veteran appearance. However, the important thing is that everything is perfectly assembled to withstand the passage of time and rough treatment.

Engine and Restrictions for the European Market

The main reason why this car cannot reach Spain is that Russia remains ‘punished’ in Europe due to its invasion of Ukraine. Moreover, the Niva Travel’s engine is far from complying with EU emissions regulations.

The car is equipped with a naturally aspirated gasoline block with 1.7 liters and 80 hp. Unfortunately, the engine is polluting and does not provide good performance to the vehicle. It’s a shame, because this car would be very cheap in Spain, although not as cheap as in Russia. In Russia, the model is available from 14,580 euros at the current exchange rate.
