Tesla Recalls Over 63,000 Cybertrucks Due to Overly Bright Headlights
Elon Musk’s automaker faces a new recall over lighting issues that could increase the risk of accidents.
Tesla has recalled more than 63,000 Cybertrucks in the United States due to overly intense front headlights, which can distract other drivers and increase the risk of collisions. The NHTSA stated that the recall covers 2024–2026 models manufactured between November 2023 and October 2025, with software versions prior to 2025.38.3. The company claims that no accidents, injuries, or deaths have been reported related to this issue and will provide a free software update to fix it.
Investigations into Tesla’s Autonomous Driving
Tesla’s situation is further complicated by federal investigations into its Full Self-Driving system. According to the NHTSA, 58 incidents are under review in which Teslas reportedly violated traffic laws, resulting in more than a dozen crashes and fires and around 20 injuries. This inquiry adds to other ongoing investigations into Tesla’s autonomous technology, potentially jeopardizing Musk’s plans to convert millions of vehicles into fully autonomous cars via remote software updates.
Previous Cybertruck Recalls
The headlight issue follows previous recall campaigns. In March, over 46,000 Cybertrucks were recalled due to an exterior panel along the windshield that could detach while driving, posing a direct hazard to other vehicles. These incidents highlight growing regulatory concerns about the quality and safety of Tesla’s electric vehicles.

Financial and Commercial Impact
Despite these safety issues, Tesla recently reported a fourth consecutive quarter of declining profits, with third-quarter earnings of $1.4 billion, down 37% from the previous year. Although sales rose thanks to the $7,500 federal EV tax credit, this boost may have shifted purchases from the current quarter, affecting the company’s financial reporting.
A Challenge for Tesla
With issues ranging from dazzling headlights, massive recalls, and autonomous driving concerns, Tesla faces a critical moment that could impact consumer confidence. The company must resolve software issues and ensure vehicle safety to protect its ambition to lead the electric vehicle market and the transition to full autonomy.
