Opel Grandland Mild Hybrid (2025): Real-World Fuel Consumption Under Control — The German SUV Challenging Diesel?
The new, larger, and more technological Opel Grandland 2025 proves in a 360 km test that its 145 hp 1.2 mild hybrid engine is surprisingly efficient, recording an average consumption of just 4.60 L/100 km.
The growth of the Opel Grandland in this second generation is not solely about exterior dimensions and technology; its STLA Medium platform also marks the departure from diesel in favor of new electrified powertrains. The star of this real-world consumption test is the modern 145 hp 1.2 mild hybrid engine. On the classic 360-kilometer journey between Rome and Forlì, this German SUV, which now measures 4.65 meters long and weighs 1.6 tonnes unladen, recorded an excellent average consumption of only 4.60 liters per 100 km. This translates to a fuel expenditure of 24.82 euros for the entire trip, demonstrating efficiency on par with its most direct competitors.
Proven Efficiency: Outperforming ECO-Labelled Rivals
With this figure of 4.60 L/100 km, the new Grandland is positioned in the upper-middle section of the real-world consumption ranking for gasoline vehicles. This figure is particularly impressive when compared to other popular hybrid SUVs. The Opel Grandland achieved better results than the Peugeot 3008 Hybrid or the Dacia Duster mild hybrid, which registered 4.65 L/100 km. It even surpassed the Jeep Avenger e-Hybrid (4.70 L/100 km) and the Alfa Romeo Tonale Hybrid (5.00 L/100 km), confirming its great efficiency for a front-wheel-drive SUV of this type.
The model tested, the Opel Grandland Hybrid 145cv EDCT GS, is a mid-level trim yet comes quite comprehensive as standard. Notable equipment includes 19-inch alloy wheels, the illuminated Opel logo (front and rear), the electric tailgate, and the 16-inch central screen. Furthermore, it integrates a 6-speed double-clutch automatic transmission and dual-zone automatic climate control. The catalog price for the tested unit, which included some optional extras like the glass roof and Grafik grey paint, amounted to 43,440 euros.

Despite its low consumption, the Grandland offers a decent range thanks to its 55-liter fuel tank. In normal day-to-day driving conditions, its efficiency is remarkable. Although consumption tends to increase on the highway, its theoretical range is almost never less than 750 km on a full tank. Only with an extremely careful driving style on ideal routes could a theoretical range of about 1,400 km be achieved.
The new Opel Grandland 2025 emerges as a modern, spacious, and well-equipped car. Its mild hybrid powertrain not only meets expectations but pleasantly surprises in road consumption tests. Offering great ride comfort and low fuel requirements for its size, the Grandland establishes itself as a very strong and competitive option in the SUV segment, proving that light electrification is a smart path towards real efficiency.
