New BYD Tang DM-i 2026: the 7-seater plug-in hybrid SUV with 1,160 km of range and a game-changing price
The BYD Tang DM-i 2026 arrives as a more practical and affordable alternative to the all-electric version, combining bold design, advanced technology, and an EREV system capable of over 1,100 km of total range.
BYD continues its global offensive with the new Tang DM-i 2026, a plug-in hybrid version of the brand’s flagship SUV that aims to win over families with its perfect balance of range, power, and value. Now featuring a 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine paired with an extended-range electric system (EREV), this model takes direct aim at competitors like the Peugeot 5008, Skoda Kodiaq, and Hyundai Santa Fe 2026.
EREV technology and standout performance
The BYD Tang DM-i 2026 combines its 1.5 turbo petrol engine with an electric motor to deliver 271 hp and 315 Nm of torque to the front wheels. This setup allows for 0–100 km/h in 7.5 seconds and a top speed of 200 km/h. The real highlight, however, lies in its 21.5 kWh battery, providing 110 km of fully electric range, while a 53-liter fuel tank boosts the total range to a remarkable 1,160 km — making it one of the most capable SUVs in its class.
Visually, the Tang DM-i 2026 retains the bold, commanding presence that defines BYD’s lineup. It features a large signature grille, dark 20-inch alloy wheels, and connected rear light clusters. Inside, it boasts a rotating 15.6-inch central display alongside a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, emphasizing its technological appeal. The cabin keeps its seven-seat configuration and offers up to 1,655 liters of cargo capacity with all rear seats folded, giving it a clear advantage over many European rivals.

When it comes to equipment, BYD has packed the Tang DM-i with premium features: heated and ventilated electric seats, a panoramic sunroof, a 12-speaker Dynaudio sound system, ambient lighting, digital key access, V2L power output, and wireless charging. Safety tech includes adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, 360º surround vision, and matrix LED headlights — ensuring top-tier protection and comfort.
All this comes at an estimated starting price of just €30,800, a highly competitive figure considering its size, range, and technology. The BYD Tang DM-i 2026 stands out as one of the most complete and affordable 7-seater plug-in SUVs on the market, proving that China’s hybrid revolution isn’t just about efficiency — it’s also about delivering real excitement behind the wheel.
