Mitsubishi Elevance Concept: The Futuristic Hybrid Montero Preview in Japan
The Mitsubishi Elevance Concept previews a possible plug-in hybrid Montero with four electric motors, a carbon-neutral gasoline engine, and a futuristic interior.

A glimpse of the future Montero
Mitsubishi unveiled the Elevance Concept at the Japan Mobility Show, a prototype that could hint at the next-generation Montero-Pajero. Its front end resembles camouflaged prototypes spotted in July, while the straight-lined design and rear suicide doors give it a bold, futuristic presence. This concept points to a large, adventurous SUV ready for all terrains and scenarios.
Revolutionary plug-in hybrid system
The Elevance combines four electric motors with a gasoline engine capable of running on carbon-neutral fuel. While Mitsubishi has not detailed the battery, it is understood to have enough capacity to power even a matching trailer, complete with a kitchen and shower. This is a conventional plug-in hybrid, as the gasoline engine drives the wheels directly rather than acting as a range extender.
Futuristic and flexible interior

Inside, the cabin offers three rows of seats for six passengers (2+2+2), with rotating front seats. The interior integrates three screens across the dashboard, a monitor in the octagonal steering wheel, and climate controls via a horizontal touch strip. Despite the digital focus, Mitsubishi retains physical controls, including a rotary dial for driving modes and buttons surrounding the steering wheel screen, blending innovation with practicality.
Design and technology built for adventure
Beyond its complex PHEV system, the Elevance shows that Mitsubishi is aiming for large, capable SUVs, with features designed for adventure and passenger comfort. The concept suggests the future Montero will not only be more efficient and sustainable but also more technologically advanced and practical for long trips and off-road journeys.
Expectations and prototype’s future
Although Mitsubishi is known for prototypes that never reach production, the Elevance Concept presents ideas that could appear in future models. With its advanced hybrid drivetrain, innovative interior, and off-road capabilities, this prototype sets the tone for the next Montero, promising to excite Japanese SUV enthusiasts in the years to come.
