Honda Super-One EV 2026: Compact Electric with Simulated Gear Shifts and Engine Sound
The Honda Super-One EV combines the practicality of a kei car with engine sound effects and a simulated gearbox, set to reach production in 2026.

A compact EV with a sporty soul
Honda surprises with the Super-One EV, a small electric hatchback that goes beyond the typical city car. First previewed as a concept at the Goodwood Festival of Speed and now presented as a prototype at the Japan Mobility Show, it features a boxy body with pronounced fenders, standing out from oversized SUVs and offering a refreshing alternative in the small car segment.
Inspired by the N-One, but more aggressive
The prototype resembles the second-generation Honda N-One, but with a more aggressive body kit. While it appears to be an electric conversion of the 2020 model, Honda confirms it sits on a new platform developed for the latest N Series EVs. Inside, updates include a compact gear selector and square air vents, distinguishing it from previous models while retaining its kei car identity.
Simulated sound and gears: a nod to purists
The Super-One EV includes a boost mode and artificial engine noise delivered through the speakers. Additionally, it features a simulated seven-speed gearbox, recreating the feel of a traditional car. While arguably unnecessary in a small EV, these touches aim to appeal to classic car enthusiasts without compromising modern electric driving.
Size and planned markets
Honda has not yet confirmed output figures, but the model may grow slightly compared to traditional kei cars since it will be sold outside Japan. Production will begin in 2026, starting in Japan and later expanding to the UK, Asia, and Oceania, under different names: Super-One in Japan and Asia-Pacific, Super-N in the UK.
Honda’s vision for urban EVs
With this model, Honda blends practicality, nostalgia, and electric technology, setting a precedent for its future compact EVs. The Super-One promises a city car with personality and driving fun, without sacrificing the efficiency and comfort expected from a modern electric vehicle.
