The updated JAECOO 5 2026 is generating strong interest among Spanish drivers, following the success of its “cousins,” the EBRO s400 and Omoda 5, two Chery-group models that have already won over buyers thanks to their outstanding value for money. At 4.38 meters long, this compact SUV takes aim at the heart of the segment, competing directly with the Citroën C3 Aircross, Dacia Duster, Hyundai KONA, Kia Niro, MG ZS, Peugeot 2008, Renault Captur, Toyota C-HR and Volkswagen T-Roc.

Design and technology: the keys to its SUV offensive

On the outside, the JAECOO 5 features squared-off lines with a touch of Range Rover-inspired styling, and even offers an optional two-tone body. Inside, the technological leap is evident: an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster and a large 13.2-inch vertical touchscreen dominate the cabin. A modern setup designed to challenge the segment’s top contenders.

The engine lineup starts with the well-known 1.6 TGDI petrol unit delivering 147 hp, paired with a seven-speed DCT automatic transmission and wearing the C emissions label. There’s also a fully electric 211 hp version capable of delivering up to 402 km WLTP, complete with the 0 emissions label. But the true star –and the one generating the most excitement– is the brand-new SHS-H hybrid powertrain, JAECOO’s most strategic bet for the Spanish market.

In this configuration, the JAECOO 5 combines a 143 hp 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine with a powerful electric motor producing 150 kW (204 hp). The result is 224 hp, front-wheel drive, and all the advantages of the Eco label, clearly distinguishing itself from the EBRO s400 HEV, which uses a more basic naturally aspirated engine. This version accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds, reaches a top speed of 175 km/h, and returns a very efficient 5.3 l/100 km WLTP.

The new JAECOO 5 SHS-H 2026 is about to hit Spanish dealerships. And it does so with a price that could rewrite the segment’s rules: €30,000 for the hybrid, €27,500 for the TGDI petrol, and €35,500 for the electric model. Without a doubt, this is a full-on offensive to position itself as one of the smartest SUV purchases of the year.
