Ford Bronco Raptor R And Ranger Raptor R Not Planned As F-150 Raptor R Remains King

Published

on

Ford’s Raptor lineup has become one of the most respected names in the off-road world. The Ford F-150 Raptor R, Ford Bronco Raptor and Ford Ranger Raptor continue to attract enthusiasts looking for factory-built high-performance trucks and SUVs.

However, Ford has now confirmed that a Bronco Raptor R and a Ranger Raptor R are not currently part of the company’s plans.

According to Ford Racing production vehicle chief engineer Carl Widmann, the existing Bronco Raptor and Ranger Raptor already deliver the performance most buyers want.

Ford F-150 Raptor R Continues To Lead The Raptor Family

The Ford F-150 Raptor R remains the flagship of the entire Raptor lineup. Equipped with a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 engine producing 720 horsepower, it sits at the top of Ford’s off-road performance hierarchy.

The truck was developed to offer extreme desert-running capability while delivering the power expected from a halo vehicle.

For now, Ford appears committed to keeping the Raptor R badge exclusive to the F-150.

No Ford Bronco Raptor R Planned

During the Carlisle Ford Nationals event, Widmann was asked whether Ford planned to introduce a Bronco Raptor R that would sit above the current Bronco Raptor.

His answer was simple.

“I have not seen any plans for it.”

The statement suggests Ford believes the current Bronco Raptor already provides the capability and performance expected by off-road enthusiasts.

The Bronco Raptor remains one of the most capable factory-built SUVs available in the United States.

Ford Ranger Raptor Already Dominates Its Segment

Widmann’s comments about the Ford Ranger Raptor were even more surprising.

According to Ford, the Ranger Raptor already produces significantly more power than any direct competitor in the midsize truck segment.

The company does not see a strong need for a Ranger Raptor R because the existing model already sits at the top of its class.

Ford believes the current formula offers the right balance between performance, capability and everyday usability.

Does The Ford Ranger Raptor Already Have Too Much Power?

The Ford Ranger Raptor uses a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6 engine shared with the Bronco Raptor.

While the Bronco Raptor receives a slightly different calibration and more horsepower, the Ranger Raptor benefits from a lighter platform and smaller dimensions.

Widmann even suggested the Ranger Raptor may already have more power than many buyers actually need.

Although Ford has offered software upgrades for the engine, a dedicated Ranger Raptor R does not appear to be under consideration.

Final Thoughts

Ford’s current strategy is clear. The Bronco Raptor and Ranger Raptor already offer exceptional off-road performance, while the Ford F-150 Raptor R continues to serve as the ultimate performance model in the Raptor family.

Product plans can always evolve, but for now Ford has no plans for either a Bronco Raptor R or a Ranger Raptor R. As a result, the 720-horsepower F-150 Raptor R remains the undisputed king of Ford’s off-road lineup.
