CUPRA Formentor VZ5 2026: The Wild Spanish SUV Returns with 390 HP and a Limited Edition
The sporty CUPRA icon makes a comeback with its legendary five-cylinder engine, ready to win over driving enthusiasts once again. Production is limited to 4,000 units.

The best news for performance SUV enthusiasts is that the CUPRA Formentor VZ5 is making its return in 2026, reclaiming its title as the most extreme and exclusive version in the lineup. Under the bonnet lies the iconic 2.5 TSI five-cylinder engine with 390 HP, sourced from Audi, which made a lasting impression in the pre-facelift model. Production will begin in the first quarter of 2026, with only 4,000 units planned for global distribution. There’s no official pricing yet, but if you’re interested, it might be wise to reserve yours early.
Aggressive design and unique details for a collector’s SUV
Visually, the VZ5 stands out with its flared wheel arches, 20-inch alloy wheels with a unique design, and quad Copper-finished exhaust tips, arranged diagonally in pairs within a redesigned rear diffuser. The front bumper is exclusive, featuring an integrated splitter with the ‘VZ5’ emblem engraved on it. As always, this SUV is designed, developed and manufactured in Barcelona, and will be available in a selection of distinctive finishes: Dark Void, Magnetic Tech Matte, Century Bronze Matte, Enceladus Grey Matte and Midnight Black.
Inside, the sporty atmosphere is enhanced by CUPBucket seats, customizable ambient lighting, and numerous CUPRA details. Despite its performance-focused nature, it retains the excellent interior space that defines the Formentor, proving that this is more than just a collector’s toy—it’s a car built to deliver daily driving excitement with real character.
Torque Splitter technology and all-wheel drive for outstanding dynamics
The 2.5 TSI engine delivers 390 HP and 480 Nm of torque, paired with a seven-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission featuring a Sport program and steering-wheel-mounted paddles for more direct manual control. It also benefits from all-wheel drive with a Haldex clutch and the sophisticated Torque Splitter system, which uses a rear differential with two multi-plate clutches to distribute power selectively between the rear wheels, ensuring exceptional agility and cornering performance.
Three years ago, the previous Formentor VZ5 started at €65,340. Now, all that’s left is to wait for CUPRA to announce the new price, which is expected to be higher, though fans are hoping it won’t skyrocket too much. One thing is certain: the VZ5’s comeback is a bold statement, and CUPRA is once again proving that Spain knows how to build cars with a true performance soul.
