Citroën Presents ELO: Electric Concept Car with Six Seats, Extreme Modularity, and 180-Degree Views

By  |

Citroën has unveiled ELO, an electric concept car that acts as a laboratory of ideas. Following the path of the OLI (2022), ELO explores territories of future mobility. The car offers a reinvented vision, designed to give useful time back to the user.

The ELO was conceived from a specific, entirely electric platform. The engine is located in the rear axle. This architecture freed up new volumes, rethinking the cabin. The vehicle is a “compact that thinks big,” functioning as a true “little house” on wheels. Its reduced size makes it agile for urban area traffic.

The design is characterized by its minivan style. The large glass surfaces add up to 4.5 sq m. Its vibrant orange hue evolves depending on the light, providing a dose of optimism. Citroën will present the new ELO in a world premiere at the Brussels Motor Show, starting on January 9.

Extreme Modularity and Interior Experience

The ELO concept has been conceived as an everyday companion. It intuitively adapts to customer needs. The driving position is located in a novel central front position. This offers a new sense of visibility thanks to a 180-degree windshield.

The driver’s seat can rotate 360 degrees for working or conversing. The concept is presented with four seats, but it can deploy two additional seats. These seats are hidden beneath the lateral seats of the second row. The three rear seats are removable. This allows them to be transformed into auxiliary outdoor armchairs. The four side doors deploy with an antagonistic movement. The absence of a central pillar offers easy access measuring 1.92 meters wide.

Mobile Office and Home Cinema

The total modularity of the ELO allows for unique transformations. It can be converted into a sleeping space for two people. It uses inflatable mattresses made of Dropstitch material for this function. It also transforms into a home cinema room with a rear projector. The swivel driver’s seat and an easily accessible tray facilitate the mobile office.

Cockpit Technology Innovation

The ELO’s cockpit displays advanced instrumentation. It is based on projecting information onto a transparent surface. This technology is less expensive than a classic head-up display. Color information appears to float across the entire width of the windshield. The single-spoke steering wheel enhances visibility. Furthermore, it is equipped with two joystick-like buttons to control digital functions.
