This Is the New Peugeot 408 2026: More Technology, a Fresh Design, and a 100% Electric Version
The French crossover prepares for its restyling with hybrid and electric powertrains, adopting the sleek design of the new 308 and upgraded onboard tech.

The Peugeot 408 2026 is set to become one of the brand’s most important launches for next year. Positioned between a fastback and an SUV, the updated model will feature a redesigned exterior inspired by the Peugeot 308, keeping its distinctive crossover character intact. With a sharper design language, an electrified engine lineup, and a more high-tech cabin, the new 408 strengthens its role as a unique alternative to traditional SUVs.
New Design Language and Electrified Powertrains
According to the digital render created by designer Nikita Chuicko, the upcoming Peugeot 408 will showcase a more aggressive front end with a 3D-effect grille, a new lighting signature without the iconic “fangs”, and a restyled bumper featuring larger side intakes. Its overall length will remain at around 4.69 meters, maintaining a sleek silhouette that continues to set it apart from the 3008 and 5008. Inside, it will mirror the updated 308’s cabin, offering higher-quality materials and improved technology, while keeping Peugeot’s distinctive i-Cockpit layout.
Mild-Hybrid, Plug-In Hybrid, and Electric: The Most Complete Range Yet
The Peugeot 408 2026 will fully embrace electrification. It will retain the 145 hp mild-hybrid system, based on the 1.2-liter turbo engine, ideal for achieving the ECO label. Meanwhile, the current 225 hp plug-in hybrid will be replaced by a new 195 hp PHEV version, featuring improved efficiency and revised electric management. The lineup will also include the fully electric 408, equipped with a 213 hp front-mounted motor and a 58.2 kWh battery, offering an estimated range of around 450 km.
Interior Space and Practicality Remain Intact
When it comes to practicality, Peugeot will preserve the dimensions and clever packaging of the current model. The mild-hybrid version will maintain its 536-liter boot, while the plug-in hybrid and electric variants will offer around 470 liters due to the battery layout. Inside, the cabin will retain its ergonomic layout and premium feel, combining comfort, design, and technology to enhance everyday usability.
Pricing and Market Launch
Official pricing and launch dates have yet to be confirmed, but first deliveries are expected to take place sometime in 2026. Prices will likely increase slightly compared to the current lineup, which starts at €36,920 for the Hybrid 145 Allure trim. With this restyling, Peugeot aims to keep the 408 among the most stylish, efficient, and distinctive crossovers on the European market.
