The Ultimate Modern Hot Rod: The Ford Model 40 Reimagined with a Coyote V8 Engine

By  |

A small Argentine company has revived the essence of classic American hot rods with a spectacular reinterpretation. This is the SP40 Restomod, a vehicle that takes direct inspiration from the 1934 Ford Model 40 Special Speedster, combining timeless design with modern power and technology.

When a car looks this good, it is hard to ignore. The builder responsible for this stunning construction is Iconic Auto Sports, a low-volume manufacturer based in Argentina. This vehicle, named the SP40 Restomod, takes inspiration from the classic 1934 Ford Model 40 Special Speedster. The company’s goal was not to replicate history, but to awaken it. Every line, curve, and mechanical detail reflects the obsession with making the best car possible to feel, to see, and to drive.

Coyote Heart and Pure Manual Transmission

The heart of the SP40 is a third-generation Ford 5.0-liter Coyote V-8 engine. This powerful engine delivers more than 460 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque. Furthermore, it features several stainless steel components. This includes long-tube headers, mufflers, and tailpipes. On the other hand, the engine pairs with a five-speed Tremec TKO 500/600 manual transmission. Finally, the car incorporates an independent front and rear suspension.

Competition Braking and Carbon Lightness

Stopping power is provided by Mustang GT350R brakes. Specifically, it uses six-piston front and four-piston rear Brembo calipers. These wrap around 15.5- and 14.9-inch cross-drilled discs, respectively. The car rides on 20-inch wheels. In turn, these are wrapped with 235/45/R20 and 275/35/R20 tires. The vehicle’s reported weight is only 2,623 pounds (1,190 kg). The low weight is possible thanks to the carbon-fiber body.

Artisanal Interior with Modern Touches

The exposed interior combines aluminum, leather, and wood exquisitely. The safety belts are Sparco. Despite its retro design, the car includes a few modern features. For example, it has wireless phone charging. Although the SP40’s design looks straight out of the 1930s, the wide wheels and modern headlights reveal its modernity. Iconic Auto Sports is an Argentine company, but it has an office in the United States. You can order one there. However, pricing is not available, but it is expected to be high given the bespoke and exclusive nature of the car.
