Skoda Turns 130: A Legacy of Innovation and a “Zero-Emission” Lineup That Keeps Growing
From crafting bicycles to leading Europe’s electric revolution, the Czech brand celebrates its anniversary stronger than ever.
Talking about Skoda today means talking about a brand that has mastered the art of reinvention without losing its soul. What began in 1895 with Václav Laurin and Václav Klement building bicycles has evolved into one of Europe’s most respected automotive success stories. As it marks its 130th anniversary, the Czech manufacturer–part of the Volkswagen Group since 1991–boasts the widest range in its history, including an expanding selection of “zero-emission” vehicles, from the Superb iV plug-in hybrid to the 340 hp all-electric Elroq RS.
Smarter Electrification: More Range, Better Performance
Far from being a passing trend, Skoda’s electrification strategy is a showcase of consistent technological progress. The latest plug-in hybrids–Superb iV and Kodiaq iV–feature the 1.5 TSI petrol engine paired with a 19.7 kWh battery, delivering over 100 km (62 miles) of electric range under WLTP standards. For the first time, they also support fast DC charging up to 50 kW and AC charging up to 11 kW, significantly improving day-to-day usability.
RS Electrified: The Sportiest Side of Skoda’s DNA
Yet, Skoda hasn’t turned its back on its passionate side. The new generation of RS models proves that emotion and electrification can coexist. The brand-new Elroq RS, a compact all-electric SUV, delivers 340 hp, all-wheel drive, and a 0–100 km/h time of just 5.4 seconds, while offering up to 549 km of range. Its sharp design and engaging dynamics put it toe-to-toe with premium European rivals–at a far more competitive price: from €51,430 (€42,850 with discounts).

Sitting above it, the Enyaq RS–available both as a classic SUV and a sleeker Coupé–shares the same twin-motor setup with 340 hp and up to 560 km of range, reinforcing Skoda’s position as a brand that seamlessly blends sportiness, technology, and efficiency.
130 Years Looking Ahead
With a lineup spanning from plug-in hybrids to high-performance electric SUVs, Skoda celebrates its 130th anniversary as one of Europe’s top three best-selling carmakers. Refusing to stand still, the Czech brand continues to push forward with new launches like the Fabia 130, a sporty supermini that revives the spirit of classic RS models for the modern era. Skoda proves that tradition and innovation can go hand in hand, and that its commitment to sustainable mobility doesn’t mean sacrificing the thrill of driving. At 130 years young, the brand that started with a bicycle is once again setting the pace for the future of motoring.
