70 Years of the Citroën DS: Paris Celebrates the Anniversary of the Car That Changed History

By  |

The legendary Citroën DS turns seventy and returns to its birthplace with a unique exhibition at Parc André Citroën.

Few cars can claim to have revolutionised the automotive industry quite like the Citroën DS, unveiled on 6 October 1955. With its futuristic design, hydropneumatic suspension, and unmistakable elegance, this French masterpiece marked a turning point in automotive history. In 2025, Paris will honour the 70th anniversary of the “Goddess” with the “DS Jubilé de Platine”, taking place on 18–19 October at the historic Parc André Citroën, where more than 1.3 million units of the iconic model were built.

The DS Returns to Its Birthplace

The event, organised by DS Automobiles, L’Aventure DS, and the ParlDS brand club, will bring together over 200 historic DS models from across Europe. Among the highlights are unique examples such as the 1955 DS 19 “ELV 31”, the oldest surviving pre-production model, and the 1968 DS 21 Pallas with directional headlights—one of the most advanced features of its time. The programme includes a Concours d’Élégance, presided over by Henri-Jacques Citroën, as well as a parade through the streets of Paris, starting from Avenue Foch and finishing at the park where it all began.

Xavier Peugeot, Managing Director of DS Automobiles, emphasised the importance of the celebration as “a bridge between the brand’s visionary past and its electric future.” Alongside the classic models, DS will showcase the latest DS 4 and DS 8, the latter offering up to 750 km of fully electric range, as well as groundbreaking concept cars such as the DS Aero Sport Lounge (2020) and the DS E-Tense Performance (2022), boasting 815 hp and all-wheel drive.

Tradition, Technology and French Elegance

The Citroën DS was a symbol of progress and innovation—an icon of avant-garde French design that perfectly combined comfort, style, and technology. Its legacy lives on today in the E-Tense line of DS Automobiles, which reinterprets that pioneering spirit through sustainable materials and high-performance electric powertrains.

The “DS Jubilé de Platine” not only pays tribute to a legendary automobile, but also to seventy years of design, engineering, and automotive passion. Seventy years later, the DS returns home, to the very place where it was born, reminding the world why it remains one of the most influential and beautiful cars in history.
