Nissan Unveils the Tekton: a Low-Cost SUV Based on the New Dacia Duster

By  |

The Japanese brand will build it in India on the latest Duster platform, with market launch scheduled for 2026 and ambitions to dominate its segment.

Nissan’s global strategy continues to generate headlines. While in Europe the brand is focusing on the upcoming Micra and LEAF EVs, in India it has revealed the first images of a surprising new SUV. Called the Nissan Tekton, the model will replace the previous Terrano —itself derived from the first Duster— and is based on the new-generation Dacia Duster, developed on the CMF-B platform of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance.

Rugged design with hints of the Patrol

The Tekton will be produced at Chennai (India) alongside the Renault Duster, with market launch set for 2026. Positioned below the X-Trail in Nissan’s Indian lineup, the SUV showcases a strikingly adventurous design: C-shaped LED headlights, a full-width illuminated grille strip, sculpted hood, and a robust-looking bumper. At the rear, a horizontal red LED bar spans the tailgate, with the model name in the center, while the profile reveals muscular lines and a slightly sloping roof —all in line with Nissan’s current global design language.

A name with meaning

Beyond its design, Nissan has given the SUV a distinctive identity. The name Tekton comes from Greek, meaning “craftsman” or “architect.” According to the company, it symbolizes the combination of technical precision and refined design, while also drawing a subtle connection to the legendary Nissan Patrol, still a key reference in several international markets.

Global ambitions, but not for Europe

Although India will be its launch market, Nissan confirms that the Tekton will also be exported to other Asian countries and different continents. However, it is unlikely to reach Europe, where the brand’s SUV lineup is already well covered by the popular Juke and Qashqai. The company says more details on powertrains and interiors will be revealed closer to launch in 2025.

Competitive pricing in its segment

Everything indicates that the Nissan Tekton will arrive with an attractive price point, at least from a European perspective. In India, however, it won’t necessarily be considered cheap but rather a modern, robust, and affordable SUV aimed at gaining ground in one of the most competitive automotive markets in the world. With the Tekton, Nissan seeks to strengthen its presence in a key region for the future of the industry.
