Mild-Hybrid Engines on the Horizon: The New 2026 SEAT Ibiza and Arona Arrive Renewed, with Sporty Design and 150 HP

By  |

SEAT celebrates its 75th anniversary by launching a profound renewal of its best-selling models, the Ibiza hatchback and the Arona urban SUV.

The SEAT Ibiza has established itself as a true icon. In fact, since 1984, the hatchback has accumulated over 6 million units sold across five generations. For its part, the SEAT Arona, the urban SUV, has earned a place in the market since its launch in 2017. Consequently, the Arona exceeds 750,000 units sold, being valued for its compact size and urban agility.

The new SEAT Ibiza and SEAT Arona feature a design with more character. At the front, they incorporate a new hexagonal grille design. In addition, a diamond-shaped grille accentuates the sporty character. The new headlight designs use Full LED technology. Indeed, they are narrower, which highlights the width and drastically improves visibility. As a result, they offer greater range and brightness with lower energy consumption. Finally, the model inscription in dark aluminum at the rear adds a modern touch.

Refined, Sporty, and Connected Interior

Inside, both models make a leap in quality, design, and technology, while maintaining the feeling of space. On one hand, new patterned fabrics, refined materials, and a darker headliner have been used. Furthermore, the steering wheel is clad in high-quality perforated leather. On the other hand, the launch edition’s FR trim comes with sport (Bucket) seats as standard. This trim achieves a balance between comfort for daily use and support for agile driving.

Digital technology is enhanced. Likewise, they integrate the new premium sound system SEAT Sound, which includes six speakers, a subwoofer, and a 300 W amplifier. In terms of connectivity, they incorporate 15 W wireless fast charging with cooling technology.

Powertrains and the First Mild-Hybrid Step

Under the hood, the SEAT Ibiza and SEAT Arona will maintain the balance between dynamism and efficiency. In particular, they are powered by a range of gasoline engines from 80 HP up to 150 HP.

  • The most powerful engine is the 1.5 TSI 150 HP 4-cylinder. This engine uses a 7-speed DSG gearbox. Moreover, it incorporates a cylinder deactivation system (ACT) to optimize consumption and reduce emissions.
  • Other options include the 1.0 MPI 80 HP (exclusive to the Ibiza) and the 1.0 TSI in 95 HP (manual gearbox) and 115 HP (manual or DSG) versions.

This renewal is the first step in SEAT’s electrification strategy. Therefore, we will see Mild-Hybrid (MHEV) options for the Ibiza and Arona in 2027. This will be followed by a Full Hybrid engine for the León in 2028.
