London’s First Robotaxis Could Arrive Within Months As Uber Expands Autonomous Mobility
Uber says London could soon become home to the United Kingdom’s first public robotaxi service. Through its partnership with British autonomous driving company Wayve, the ride-hailing giant expects self-driving vehicles to begin carrying passengers in the capital as soon as regulators approve commercial operations.
The launch would mark a major milestone for autonomous mobility in Europe, a region that has lagged behind the United States and China in deploying robotaxi services.

Uber and Wayve are preparing to bring the UK’s first public robotaxi service to the streets of London.
Customers will be able to sign up for a chance to ride in the new autonomous vehicles, which will initially operate with trained safety operators behind the wheel while the technology continues to be monitored.
The service forms part of Uber’s broader strategy to expand autonomous mobility solutions and reduce operating costs while improving transportation efficiency.
Robotaxis Are Coming To London
While robotaxi services already operate in cities such as San Francisco, Phoenix, Los Angeles, and several locations across China, Europe has moved more cautiously.
Complex road networks, historic city layouts, and stricter regulations have slowed the introduction of self-driving technology compared to other markets.
According to Wayve, this will be the first time members of the public in the United Kingdom will be able to hail an autonomous vehicle through a ride-hailing platform.

Wayve’s autonomous technology has been tested extensively on London’s busy streets since 2018.
The vehicles selected for the program are Ford Mustang Mach-E models equipped with multiple cameras and radar sensors that continuously monitor the surrounding environment.
All data is processed directly by the vehicle’s onboard systems, allowing it to navigate complex urban situations without direct human input.
Wayve says the technology has already been tested across London since 2018, learning how to handle some of the most challenging traffic conditions in Europe.
Trained On Real-World Traffic
London provides one of the toughest environments for autonomous vehicles.
Heavy traffic, buses constantly entering and leaving stops, cyclists weaving through traffic, and pedestrians crossing unexpectedly create scenarios that test the limits of artificial intelligence systems.
According to demonstrations carried out ahead of the launch, the autonomous vehicles successfully navigated many of these challenges while maintaining smooth and predictable behavior.
Passengers who are matched with a robotaxi will also have the option to switch back to a traditional Uber ride if they prefer.
Importantly, Uber says autonomous rides will not cost more than conventional journeys.

A Growing Autonomous Mobility Race
The United Kingdom government has accelerated efforts to support autonomous transportation, opening the door to pilot programs before a wider rollout expected in the coming years.
Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander said self-driving technology could transform mobility by improving safety, supporting economic growth, and creating highly skilled jobs.
Competition is also intensifying. Google’s Waymo is already testing autonomous vehicles on London’s roads and plans to launch commercial services in the city. Meanwhile, Uber and Lyft are also preparing to test Baidu’s Apollo Go autonomous vehicles in the British capital.
Backed By Major Industry Players
Wayve has emerged as one of the fastest-growing autonomous driving companies in Europe.
The company partnered with Uber in 2024 and has developed software capable of operating across multiple vehicle platforms, allowing for faster scaling as robotaxi adoption grows.
Earlier this year, Wayve raised $1.5 billion in funding from investors including Uber, Mercedes-Benz, Stellantis, and Nissan, reaching a valuation of $8.6 billion.
With regulatory approval potentially arriving within months, London could soon become one of the most important testing grounds for autonomous mobility in Europe and a key step toward the widespread adoption of robotaxi services.

The system is designed to understand the context behind these requests and provide more relevant responses. Drivers who sign into their Google Account can access the experience while keeping their hands on the wheel and attention focused on driving.
This integration builds on Acura’s existing use of Google built-in technology and expands the role of voice assistance beyond basic navigation or infotainment commands.

Gemini Live Expands the In-Car AI Experience
Another key addition is Gemini Live, which enables longer and more fluid conversations with the AI assistant. Drivers can activate the feature with a voice prompt and discuss topics that extend beyond traditional vehicle functions.
Gemini Live can help plan a weekend trip, suggest family activities, summarize news or assist with brainstorming ideas for an upcoming meeting. The goal is to create a more useful digital assistant that drivers can interact with naturally while traveling.

The rollout covers all 2024 Acura ZDX models, all 2025 and newer MDX models, and the 2025 and newer ADX A-Spec Advance. Stellantis is enhancing its Connect One platform for 2027 model-year vehicles by adding remote engine start, lowering Wi-Fi subscription costs, and expanding connected services across multiple brands.
Stellantis is expanding its Connect One connected services platform for the 2027 model year, adding remote engine start and stop through the mobile app while reducing the monthly cost of its Wi-Fi Plus subscription. The updates apply to most Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram, FIAT, and Alfa Romeo vehicles sold in the United States.
The enhanced package gives owners more convenience, connected features, and long-term value through a standard 10-year service plan.

Remote engine start joins the standard package
One of the biggest updates is the addition of remote engine start and stop through the brand’s mobile app, allowing drivers to warm up or cool down their vehicle before getting behind the wheel.
The standard Connect One package now includes:
- Remote engine start and stop
- Remote door lock and unlock
- Over-the-air software updates
- Monthly vehicle health reports
- Recall and maintenance alerts
- Service scheduling
- Automatic SOS emergency calls
- Remote personal data deletion
- Access to in-vehicle games through the App Market
These features are included for 10 years at no additional cost on most eligible 2027 model-year vehicles.

Lower Wi-Fi pricing and expanded connected services
Stellantis also reduced the monthly cost of its Connect Wi-Fi Plus subscription to $15.99, lowering the price by $2 per month. Customers who activate the service within 30 days of purchasing their vehicle receive a three-month free trial.
The subscription includes:
- Unlimited Wi-Fi hotspot connectivity for up to eight devices
- Connected navigation services
- Vehicle finder
- Stolen vehicle assistance
- Theft alerts
- Remote horn and light activation
Certain models receive additional benefits. The 2027 Jeep Grand Wagoneer, Wagoneer S, and Alfa Romeo lineup include three years of premium connected services at no extra cost, while selected Jeep and Dodge models continue using the SiriusXM Guardian platform with extended safety and assistance features.
The latest updates reinforce Stellantis Connect One as one of the most comprehensive connected vehicle platforms available, combining convenience, safety, and digital services while reducing ownership costs for customers.

Charging an electric vehicle at home is the most convenient and cost-effective way to keep a battery full. According to industry estimates, more than 80% of EV charging in the United States happens at home, making public charging a secondary option for most drivers. Understanding the different charging levels, connector types, and installation requirements can help owners get the most from their electric vehicle.

Most EV owners recharge their vehicles at home using Level 1 or Level 2 charging.
Level 1 vs. Level 2 home EV charging
Home EV charging comes in two primary forms. Level 1 charging uses a standard 120-volt household outlet and requires no special installation. While it’s the simplest solution, it typically adds only 3 to 5 miles of driving range per hour, making it best suited for drivers with short daily commutes.
Level 2 charging operates on a 240-volt circuit and requires professional installation. The faster charging speed makes it the preferred solution for most homeowners, with compatible GM home chargers capable of adding up to 44 miles of range per hour. Many workplaces, hotels, parking garages, and public locations also offer Level 2 charging.

Understanding NACS and CCS charging connectors
Modern GM electric vehicles are transitioning to the North American Charging Standard (NACS), while previous models use the Combined Charging Standard (CCS1/J1772) connector. The difference is simply the charging plug design, and adapters allow owners to use either standard without replacing their home charging equipment.
Installing a Level 2 charger requires a qualified electrician, who will determine whether the home’s electrical system can support the new circuit. Installation costs vary depending on the home’s electrical panel, wiring distance, and available capacity.
Smart charging helps reduce costs
Many electric utilities offer lower electricity rates during off-peak hours, allowing owners to schedule charging overnight and reduce operating costs. GM’s mobile apps also let owners monitor battery status, set charging limits, and schedule charging sessions remotely.
For daily driving, charging to 80% is generally recommended to help preserve long-term battery health, while charging to 100% is best reserved for longer road trips.

Home charging also unlocks advanced technologies such as vehicle-to-home (V2H) capability.
