Kia EV4: The Game-Changing European-Built EV Aiming to Dominate the Compact Segment

By  |

With innovative design, over 600 km of range, and European manufacturing, the Kia EV4 positions itself as a serious contender to electric SUVs in one of the most competitive market segments.

A new electric era begins in Europe

Kia is diving headfirst into the compact C-segment with a fully electric hatchback that not only looks good on paper but has also been engineered specifically for European drivers. Built in Zilina, Slovakia, the EV4 is available in two distinct body styles: a practical 5-door hatchback and a sleek 4-door sedan boasting a drag coefficient of just 0.23, one of the lowest in its class. With an official range of up to 630 km, Kia directly addresses one of the most common concerns with EVs: range anxiety.

Futuristic design and surprisingly spacious interior

From a design standpoint, the EV4 borrows cues from the EV3 but refines them with a more upscale touch. The exterior blends sharp lines with aerodynamic efficiency, while the interior takes a minimalistic yet high-tech approach: a dual-level dashboard, twin 12.3-inch screens, and a dedicated climate control monitor come together to create a modern cockpit. Material quality is above average, with soft-touch surfaces, recycled plastics, and elegant textile trims. Rear seat space is particularly impressive, offering ample room for tall passengers thanks to the flat floor and thoughtful layout — comfort levels you’d expect from a larger segment.

Smooth drive, low consumption, and a sporty future ahead

During our test drive through the roads between Málaga and Marbella, the Kia EV4 proved to be agile, quiet, and very comfortable, even on challenging stretches. The 204 hp motor delivers solid performance, and the steering feels responsive and well-weighted. In Sport mode, the car becomes more dynamic — though with some impact on efficiency. Still, our recorded average of 14.5 kWh/100 km suggests that the claimed 600+ km range is realistically achievable. Kia has confirmed that an all-wheel-drive version and a high-performance GT model are on the way, catering to European drivers looking for a more spirited experience.

Competitive pricing with options for every driver

The Kia EV4 starts at €38,695 (before incentives) for the base Air 5-door version, which already includes a solid equipment package. More premium trims and the 4-door sedan version go up to €52,970, but thanks to government incentives and manufacturer discounts, prices can drop to as low as €26,400. In a market where EVs are still seen as pricey, the EV4 shows that a versatile, efficient, and European-made electric vehicle doesn’t have to break the bank. Kia has made a bold move, and with everything it brings to the table, the EV4 is well-positioned to become a best-seller.
