Infiniti QX80 R-Spec: The SUV with a GT-R Engine That Unleashes 1,000 HP of Pure Madness
Luxury meets brute force in the Infiniti QX80 R-Spec — a concept vehicle that borrows the legendary Nissan GT-R engine to transform a premium SUV into a true track-bred beast.
The new Infiniti QX80 R-Spec, unveiled at the 2025 SEMA Show, isn’t just a design experiment — it’s a statement of intent. Under its imposing hood lies the GT-R’s 3.8-liter twin-turbo VR38DETT V6, meticulously tuned to deliver a staggering 1,000 horsepower. Infiniti pushed this powerplant to its limits with Garrett G-Series turbochargers, JE pistons, Boostline rods, ARP fasteners, and ETS exhaust manifolds, all managed by a MOTEC racing ECU for precise performance control.
Radical Engineering and Race-Inspired Aerodynamics
Beneath the surface, Infiniti installed a custom fuel system and twin front-mounted intercoolers, along with CSF coolers for both engine and transmission, ensuring ideal thermal balance. The bodywork takes on a bold new shape: an aggressive wide-body kit, R35 GT-R–inspired exhaust tips, and an ARP front splitter make the SUV look ready for the track. Its 24-inch bronze GT-R-style wheels, wrapped in Yokohama PARADA Spec-X tires, hide the carbon-ceramic brakes sourced directly from Nissan’s iconic supercar.

Handcrafted Suspension and a Commanding Stance
To keep this powerhouse under control, Infiniti fitted a custom coilover suspension with Eibach springs, requiring a relocated steering rack and re-engineered bump-steer knuckles for razor-sharp handling. While the brand hasn’t shown the cabin yet, it’s expected to retain the QX80’s trademark luxury — enhanced with subtle performance touches that echo its exclusive and high-performance spirit.
Unfiltered Power, Infiniti’s Boldest Statement Yet
According to Tiago Castro, Vice President of Infiniti Americas, “The QX80 R-Spec is extreme, aggressive, and a showcase of what Infiniti can achieve when our engineering and design teams remove all boundaries.” This follows the 650-hp Infiniti Track Spec, unveiled earlier at Monterey Car Week, but the R-Spec takes the concept even further. More than a tribute to the GT-R and the Takumi master craftsmen who hand-assemble its engines, the QX80 R-Spec redefines what a luxury SUV can be — a seamless fusion of sophistication, power, and unrestrained technical artistry.
