Genesis Magma GT Concept: The Mid-Engine Supercar Set to Drive the Brand’s Racing Ambitions

By  |

A low-slung, mid-engine supercar that will become a production model, marking the future of the Korean luxury division in high performance.

Genesis made a huge impression with the Magma GT Concept last month. This low-slung, mid-engine supercar will help define the brand’s next decade. All signs point to Genesis actually building the production version. The luxury brand has bold racing ambitions. Therefore, it plans to enter the World Endurance Championship in 2026. Moreover, it will compete in IMSA in 2027.

Potential Expansion of the Magma Lineup

A matching road car is necessary for these goals. In fact, Genesis President and Chief Creative Officer, Luc Donckerwolke, has promised the “whole palette.” This means a production Magma GT could potentially spawn lightweight and track variants. It could even include a proper GT3 R model.

The Mystery of the Platform and Engine

Despite its near-production appearance, the brand didn’t provide much information. Executives are staying quiet about the powertrain for now. The concept sounded like it had a V-8 engine at its debut. However, Genesis does not yet have a V-8 option in its lineup. The GT will most likely ride on bespoke architecture. The Hyundai Group has been working on a mid-engine platform for nearly a decade.

Powertrain Options and Electrification

Genesis is building a new twin-turbocharged V-8 for its Le Mans competitor. It combines two 1.6-liter four-cylinder blocks. Although it is designed for racing, it might not end up in the production version. If Genesis plans to launch a range of mid-engine supercars, it could utilize several different powertrains. The base production model might have a version of the brand’s twin-turbo V-6 hybrid. For instance, the X Gran Berlinetta concept had a V-6. This engine and electric motors combined for 1,071 horsepower. It seems likely that one iteration of Genesis’ new supercar will feature some form of electrification.

Debut and Estimated Price

The production version of the Magma GT should look a lot like the concept. The car will retain the concept’s mid-engine layout. It will also keep the brand’s twin-line lighting accents. A few minor design tweaks are expected. The GT could debut around the automaker’s entry into WEC and IMSA. A debut by the end of 2026 is most likely. Pricing is a complete mystery. Nonetheless, the car will easily cost over $100,000 to start. The GT3 variant could even crack the $200,000 mark.
