Ford Ranger PHEV Wins International Pick-up of the Year 2026/27 Award, Marking a Hybrid Milestone
Ford Pro has secured its fourth accolade in the International Pick-up Awards (IPUA) in the competition’s fifteen-year history with the new Ranger PHEV.
The IPUA jury, part of the International Van of the Year (IVOTY) group, recognized the Ranger’s hybrid propulsion system. This model proved to be the best in all aspects, featuring an intelligent transmission. The winner’s selection was decided after an exhaustive program of on-road and off-road tests held in Bulgaria.
Plug-in Hybrid Powertrain
The new Ranger PHEV perfectly combines a 2.3-liter EcoBoost gasoline engine with a 75 kW battery motor. The vehicle offers outstanding, class-leading performance. It also provides greater efficiency and lower fuel costs for daily travel.
The vehicle features a selection of EV driving modes, allowing it to run using gasoline, battery, or a combination of both sources. The ruggedness and work capability of the Ford Ranger are not compromised. This plug-in hybrid version delivers 281 hp of power and 697 Nm of torque. Furthermore, it maintains an impressive maximum towing capacity of up to 3,500 kg.
Ford’s Historic Dominance in the Category
The Ford Ranger achieved the highest score in the tests, leaving the INEOS Grenadier Quartermaster in second place and the Foton V9 in third. Foton and Maxus, both Chinese brands, impressed the judges with their performance during the trial.

Hans Schep, General Manager of Ford Pro Europe, received the award at the Solutrans 2025 Gala Dinner in Lyon, France. We deeply value the recognition the jury has now granted the electrified model. The award demonstrates the constant excellence and innovative spirit that defines the Ranger line. Schep stated that the Ranger PHEV matches and elevates the unparalleled performance customers expect.
The Ford Ranger has won this prestigious award four times. Its previous victories occurred in 2013, then in 2020, and the title was shared with the Volkswagen Amarok in 2024. Therefore, Ford is the undisputed leader in its segment, holding the most IPUA awards.
