By  |

Ford introduces the Puma Gen-E, an urban electric SUV designed to be affordable and emotional, featuring a 168 hp engine and a significant price reduction. It positions itself as an attractive option against its direct Stellantis rivals, although its approved range remains at 361 km.

The Puma Gen-E joins Ford’s range of affordable electric cars designed for urban use. Identifying the electric model requires looking at specific details, mainly the closed grille. Other distinctive elements are the elongated spoiler, a diffuser, and the ‘Puma’ inscription in white letters on the tailgate.

The Sound Edition trim includes numerous sporty details as standard. For example, it incorporates a two-tone body, black inserts across the bodywork, and darkened headlights/taillights. It also features a shark fin antenna and 18-inch satin gray alloy wheels. Interestingly, the front bumper does have air intakes to cool the battery.

Range and Electric Propulsion

The vehicle uses a battery with only 43 kWh of net capacity. Its approved range is limited to 361 km, with a consumption of 13.9 kWh per 100 km. Real-world consumption settled at 17 kWh in the test, resulting in a real range of approximately 250 km. This situation will improve in the spring of 2026. Ford has announced an “optimized battery” to increase the range beyond 400 km, offering more than 550 km of urban range.

The front electric motor generates 168 hp and 290 Nm of maximum instantaneous torque. In comparison, direct Stellantis rivals deliver 156 hp. Maximum charging power reaches 100 kW in direct current, achieving 10 to 80% in 23 minutes. In alternating current, the maximum power is 11 kW.

Interior and Practicality Solutions

The cabin features hard materials, although the Sound Edition adds leather coverings to increase perceived quality. The driver has two large screens: 12.8 inches for the instrumentation and 12 inches for the central monitor. The SYNC4 multimedia system, which manages the climate control, includes an excellent voice assistant.

The Puma Gen-E offers a very practical trunk. In total, it declares 523 liters, including the 145-liter Gigabox. This large space in the false floor can be easily washed due to a drain, ideal for storing dirty or wet objects. Furthermore, the front area includes a 43-liter ‘frunk’ for storing charging cables.
