EBRO S400: The Spanish Hybrid SUV Aiming to Conquer the Market
Attractive design, excellent value for money, and efficient hybrid technology make it the next bestseller from the Spanish brand.
The EBRO name is once again making headlines in the Spanish automotive scene after years of industrial silence. The brand returns with a model that strikes directly at the heart of the market: the EBRO S400, a compact hybrid SUV featuring the ECO environmental label, a comprehensive equipment package, and a competitive price tag. Built at the former Nissan plant in Barcelona, this model seeks to become the cornerstone of EBRO’s new era, blending modern styling with oriental engineering and smart efficiency.
A Balanced SUV with a Practical Soul
Measuring 4.32 meters long, the EBRO S400 offers five seats and a 430-liter boot, perfectly suited for everyday use and weekend getaways. Its design is unmistakable: a large front grille, sleek LED headlights, and vertical daytime running lights give it a sharp, contemporary look. From the side, 17-inch alloy wheels complement a well-proportioned SUV silhouette. The S400 borrows design cues from its larger siblings, the S700 and S800, but with a more urban and approachable character.
Under the hood, the hybrid setup combines a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine with 95 hp and an electric motor delivering 204 hp, for a combined system output of 211 hp. The 1.83 kWh battery and 1DHT single-speed automatic transmission ensure smooth, efficient performance, with an average fuel consumption of just 5.3 l/100 km. On paper, it sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.7 seconds and reaches a top speed of 150 km/h, perfectly adequate for a hybrid SUV of this size.

A Hybrid System That Works Differently
The S400’s hybrid system stands out for its unconventional approach. Unlike Toyota’s hybrids, here the electric motor is always the main driving force, while the gasoline engine acts primarily as a generator to recharge the battery or works in parallel when extra power is needed. This setup prioritizes silent, fuel-efficient driving, though when pushed hard, engine noise becomes more noticeable inside the cabin. In city driving, consumption figures close to the official numbers are achievable; on the open road, expect about one liter more on average.
Competitive Price and Complete Equipment
The EBRO S400 lineup includes two trims: Premium and Excellence. The entry-level Premium starts at €27,490, while the top-spec Excellence begins at €28,990. Even in its base version, equipment is generous: stability control, keyless entry and start, dual-zone climate control, 12.3-inch digital instrumentation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and 17-inch alloy wheels all come standard. Optional extras are limited to metallic paint (€289) or Khaki White at no extra cost. All in all, the EBRO S400 positions itself as one of the most balanced and honest hybrid SUVs in its segment—a homegrown contender that has every chance of becoming the brand’s true bestseller.
