Dacia Hipster Concept: the new low-cost EV that could revolutionize urban mobility
The smallest and lightest prototype from the Romanian brand aims to undercut the Dacia Spring with its affordable design and city-focused functionality.
Dacia surprises once again with a concept that perfectly embodies its philosophy of simplicity, low cost, and efficiency. The new Dacia Hipster Concept is a compact electric city car measuring just three meters in length, designed to be cheaper and lighter than the Dacia Spring. With a target weight of only 800 kilograms and seating for four, the Hipster stays true to the brand’s practical DNA that has made Dacia one of Europe’s best-selling manufacturers.
A design study with real potential
Although presented as a styling exercise, the Hipster Concept offers a glimpse into Dacia’s possible direction for its next generation of affordable EVs. Its boxy, compact body, with wheels pushed to the corners and virtually no overhangs, maximizes interior space and agility. Despite its small footprint, it offers an impressive 500 liters of luggage space when occupied by two passengers – a remarkable figure for a car of this size.
The exterior design combines ruggedness and functionality, featuring large side claddings made from “Starkle”, a partially recycled material developed by Dacia. Other clever details include fabric door pulls instead of traditional handles, solid-color front and rear bumpers, and a split tailgate that opens both upwards and downwards, reminiscent of classic off-roaders.

Inside, the Hipster Concept stays true to Dacia’s philosophy of lightness and practicality. The cabin, with its cube-like layout and upright windows, prioritizes space efficiency and brightness. Sliding side windows, a partially glazed roof, and the absence of unnecessary trim reinforce its minimalist identity. It also debuts the “YouClip” system, which allows users to mount accessories – such as a Bluetooth speaker or smartphone holder – in up to eleven different positions across the dashboard and doors.
With this concept, Dacia redefines the idea of an affordable urban electric vehicle, offering a lightweight, intelligent solution tailored to real city needs. While its production remains uncertain, the Hipster Concept sets the tone for the brand’s next step in budget-friendly electrification, proving that innovation doesn’t always come from big budgets – but from smart ideas designed for everyday mobility.
