New Citroën C5 Aircross 2025: The Electrified SUV That Redefines French Comfort

By  |

Citroën’s most comfortable SUV reinvents itself with a fully electrified new generation that blends efficiency, design, and cutting-edge technology.

Twenty-five years ago, anyone looking for a family-oriented Citroën would likely have gone for the Xsara Picasso, one of the brand’s most iconic models. Today, with MPVs practically extinct, the baton passes to SUVs — and the new Citroën C5 Aircross 2025 is the true heir to that spirit of practicality and comfort. This is its second generation, featuring the new Stellantis STLA Medium platform and a 100% electrified range that includes Hybrid, PHEV, and fully electric versions with up to 680 km of range.

Bigger, More Modern, and Fully Digital

At first glance, the new C5 Aircross has clearly grown: 4.65 meters long, 1.90 meters wide, and a 2.78-meter wheelbase, which significantly improves interior space. Built on the same architecture as the Peugeot 3008/5008 and Opel Grandland, the 2025 C5 Aircross combines elegant design with aerodynamic efficiency, featuring details such as Matrix LED headlights, a new Light Wings signature lighting design, and 20-inch alloy wheels.

Inside, the transformation is remarkable. The cabin adopts a modern, horizontal design, with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 13.6-inch floating touchscreen that now includes ChatGPT integration. There’s also a Head-up Display, ambient lighting, and high-quality recycled materials that replace much of the piano black trim. The Advanced Comfort seats, a Citroën trademark, feature extra-soft padding for maximum comfort. While the three individual rear seats are gone, the back row now offers more leg and headroom than before.

Powertrains: Farewell to Diesel, Welcome to Electrification

The new C5 Aircross leaves behind conventional petrol and diesel engines in favor of a fully electrified lineup. It starts with the 1.2 Hybrid 145 hp mild hybrid, paired with a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, which delivers 5.4 l/100 km fuel consumption and over 950 km of total range. Above it sits the C5 Aircross Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV), combining a 1.6-liter turbocharged petrol engine with an electric motor for a total of 195 hp. Its 21 kWh battery provides up to 95 km of electric-only range, and charging takes between three and five hours, depending on the setup. At the top of the range, two fully electric versions deliver 210 and 230 hp, powered by 73 and 97 kWh batteries, offering 520 km and 680 km of range, respectively.

Equipment and Pricing

Citroën divides the range into You, Plus, Business, and Max trims. The entry-level C5 Aircross You Hybrid 145 hp starts at €34,690, though with discounts and financing it can drop to €27,690. Even the base model comes generously equipped, with adaptive cruise control with Stop & Go, driver fatigue detection, dual-zone climate control, LED headlights, a central touchscreen, and 18-inch alloy wheels. The first units will arrive in dealerships before the end of the year, marking another major step in Citroën’s total electrification strategy within the Stellantis Group. With its modern design, high-tech interior, and unmatched comfort, the new C5 Aircross 2025 is poised to become one of Europe’s benchmark electrified SUVs.
