Countdown for the MG2: The Affordable Electric Car Arriving in 2027 from 25,000 Euros

By  |

The new model will launch in 2027, and although its starting price has been revised to 25,000 euros, the British brand will not base its success solely on cost.

David Allison, head of MG for Great Britain, confirmed the arrival of the MG2. In this way, he ratified the plans of the SAIC group, which owns MG, to launch a compact and accessible vehicle for Europe.

The zero-emission utility vehicle will finally hit the market in 2027. However, the initial plans established a lower price (around 20,000 euros) and a launch scheduled for this year. These deadlines and forecasts have been notably revised.

Brand Strategy and Positioning

Allison emphasized that manufacturers must bet on accessible models to favor the transition to sustainable mobility. According to him, the way forward is downsizing, with compact dimensions and contained prices.

Sales data for the Renault 5 E-Tech have shown the breadth of the small electric car market. For this reason, launching a model of this type is essential for MG.

Price is Not the Only Focus for Success

The MG2 will not seek success by focusing solely on an attractive price. Specifically, Allison stated that MG does not want to compete against models like the Dacia Spring or the Leapmotor T03.

This strategy explains why the price forecasts for the MG2 were revised upward. Despite this, a starting cost of 25,000 euros will allow the MG2 to propose itself as the brand’s entry-level electric model. In fact, it will sit below the MG4, which currently costs around 30,000 euros.
