Chery Aims for Le Mans Glory: From a Stairway Misstep to the World’s Greatest Endurance Challenge

The brand plans to enter this historic event within a five-year timeframe. This announcement comes shortly after a high-profile failed stunt at the “Heaven’s Gate” stairs, where the brand failed to complete its ascent.

Chery will lead its motorsport offensive through its luxury sub-brand, Exeed. To achieve this, the company has already signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the Automobile Club de l’Ouest (ACO). Consequently, the Chinese manufacturer plans a gradual ramp-up to gain the necessary technical experience before facing European and Japanese giants.

A Structured Path Toward International Competition

Chery’s plan extends beyond a single participation. First, the company will launch its own racing series called the Exeed Unified Race. Through this internal competition, the brand will develop new technologies and identify its top drivers.

Subsequently, Chery intends to participate in the Asian Le Mans Series. This phase will represent its first test on a global stage. However, the company has not yet confirmed whether it will compete in the LMP2 and LMP3 prototype categories or the GT3 class.

The Challenge of a Dedicated Circuit and the Hypercar Class

As part of its agreement with the ACO, Chery will construct a certified racetrack in Wuhu, near its headquarters. This circuit will serve as a critical testing hub for the development of future high-performance models. Furthermore, the track will host various international racing events on Chinese soil.

Ultimately, the final goal is to participate in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Although the brand has not defined its final category, a Hypercar class entry would grant it maximum media exposure. Thus, Chery would aim to compete directly for the overall victory against prestigious brands like Ferrari, Toyota, and McLaren.
