BYD ATTO 2 DM-i 2026: The New Plug-In Hybrid SUV Promising 90 km of Electric Range

By  |

The smallest BYD SUV takes electrification a step further with a plug-in hybrid version that targets the heart of the urban market.

BYD continues to expand its offensive in the compact SUV segment with the arrival of the ATTO 2 DM-i, a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version set to debut in the first quarter of 2026. This new variant will join the current all-electric model, but with a major advantage: it can travel up to 90 km in electric mode (combined cycle) and over 1,000 km of total range, earning the coveted Zero Emissions label from Spanish traffic authorities. With these figures, the ATTO 2 DM-i positions itself as an ideal choice for city and suburban driving, where efficiency and unrestricted access to low-emission zones are key factors.

A Plug-In Hybrid System Unlike Any European Rival

Unlike traditional European-style PHEVs, BYD has engineered a unique system that blends series and parallel hybrid operation, where the electric motor always takes the lead while the petrol engine mostly serves as a generator. The brand explains it this way: “The ATTO 2 DM-i positions itself as the most electric plug-in hybrid in its segment, optimising efficiency on every journey by seamlessly switching between series and parallel hybrid modes.”

This approach, part of BYD’s DM-i (Dual Mode Intelligent) technology, delivers smooth performance, remarkable efficiency, and an almost fully electric driving experience, even when the battery is depleted.

Subtle Differences, Strong Identity

Visually, the BYD ATTO 2 DM-i stands out thanks to its larger front grille, the removal of the side air vents on the front wheel arches, and a new badge on the tailgate. It also debuts an exclusive exterior colour — Midnight Blue — reserved solely for this plug-in hybrid version. Two versions will be available, offering different battery capacities, power outputs, and driving ranges, allowing customers to choose the configuration that best fits their needs.

European Debut and Pricing

The model made its public debut at the Fleet Europe Days event in Luxembourg, with a press launch scheduled for November 2025. Although plug-in hybrid city SUVs are rare, there have been notable examples such as the Jeep Renegade 4xe and Renault Captur PHEV, which have since disappeared amid the rise of fully electric cars.

Currently, the all-electric BYD ATTO 2 delivers 312 km of WLTP range and starts from €29,990 in Active trim, dropping to under €19,000 with dealer promotions and Spain’s MOVES 3 incentives. The new ATTO 2 DM-i is expected to sit slightly higher in price, offering greater versatility without sacrificing its Zero Emissions status.
