Bentley Rewrites Its Future: The New Flying Spur Breaks The Rules
Bentley is pausing its sprint toward an all-EV lineup. Many automakers rethink their electric ambitions. Consequently, the British marque stretches its timeline. Now, it aims for a fully electric range by 2035. Before, the target was earlier. Instead, the company will continue producing internal combustion engine vehicles. Furthermore, it will introduce additional hybrid models. This responds to evolving market demands. It also meets regulatory requirements.
The next-generation Flying Spur sedan will reflect this change. It will likely offer hybrid, PHEV, and EV versions. So far, information surrounding the large Bentley is limited. Despite this, we compiled everything we know. We even have a visualized preview of its possible look.
Design: Goodbye Ovoids, Hello Geometry
Bentley unveiled its EXP 15 fastback concept earlier this year. This fastback shows the future electric design language. Therefore, we expect some less controversial elements to carry over to the new Flying Spur. Our study features a distinct front end. First, it has a rectangular Bentley grille. A color-coded lattice structure accompanies it. In addition, it integrates backlit illumination. The old ovoid themes are gone. Slim vertical LED headlamps replace them now. This emphasizes a geometric and upright appearance.
The design would transfer its long bonnet and sloping roofline to production. The bold shoulder line would transition into the rear haunches. Frameless windows add a streamlined aesthetic. However, flush door handles will not make the cut. This is due to expected regulatory changes regarding safety. At the rear, a slim OLED taillamp cluster will be halo-style. They will set it within a smooth panel. There, it is complemented by a minimalist diffuser and active aero elements. A contoured decklid and subtle lip spoiler will cement the go-fast look.
The Analog and Digital Luxury
The EXP 15 concept cabin is expected to inspire all future Bentley models. The interior will likely mirror the EXP 15. Only the concept’s unusual three-seat layout will be eliminated. Generally, it will emphasize analog luxury with digital finesse.
Key features could include a curved windshield. This extends into a roof with adjustable transparency. A retractable digital headliner for augmented reality will complement it.
The dashboard might feature a flexible, wing-shaped design. This will have backlit wood veneer and dual OLED displays. Likewise, it will integrate tactile knurled controls and haptic surfaces. Other goodies include an 87-inch AR head-up display. It will also offer AI-driven voice assistance. Rear occupants will enjoy premium amenities. These include reclining massage seats and fold-out tables.

Powertrains: V8, PHEV, and 1,000 HP EV
We could see a return of the pure internal combustion engine (ICE). This will be offered alongside plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and EV variants. The ICE version will use a revised twin-turbo V8. This will deliver between 600 and 700 horsepower. Moreover, it will exceed 664 lb-ft (900 Nm) of torque.
As for the PHEV, it is expected to feature the carryover V8 engine. This will couple with a rear electric motor. The setup will use a 25.9 kWh battery. Thus, combined figures will exceed 771 HP and 738 lb-ft. Power will be sent to all four wheels. An 8-speed dual-clutch transmission will manage it. The full EV version will share technology with the Porsche Cayenne EV. Therefore, it could produce up to 1,000 horsepower. It will utilize a 113 kWh battery pack. This will allow a range of nearly 370 miles (595 km).
Rivals and Reveal
The Flying Spur competes at the upper echelon of the luxury sedan market. Its primary rivals include the Rolls-Royce Ghost. Also, the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class. It even faces Huawei’s new Maextro S800 in China. Expect more information in the coming months. Bentley will reveal more of its future strategy. Finally, a reveal is anticipated in late 2026 or early 2027.
