BAIC’s new mid-size SUV with a powerful gasoline engine is coming to Spain to rival models like the Omoda 9 and JAECOO 8.

Following the success of the BAIC X55 in Spain, the Chinese brand has announced the arrival of a second SUV: the BAIC X7, a segment D crossover measuring 4.75 meters in length. This model is expected to compete directly with the MG HS and the non-electrified KGM Torres, while remaining more affordable than SUVs like the Nissan X-Trail, Peugeot 5008, Renault Espace, Skoda Kodiaq, and Volkswagen Tayron. Its launch promises to shake up the mid-size SUV market, offering an attractive and cost-effective alternative to established rivals.

Striking design and performance

The BAIC X7 stands out for its bold front end, featuring a massive grille reminiscent of the Omoda 5, and its 20 cm ground clearance, allowing it to handle rough roads. Although its multi-link rear suspension indicates a focus on on-road comfort rather than off-road use, the 1.5-liter turbo gasoline engine with 188 hp paired with a DCT automatic transmission, as seen in other markets, promises strong performance and efficiency, with an estimated fuel consumption of 7.4 liters per 100 km.

Trim levels and equipment

In some markets, the X7 is offered in three trims, starting with the Comfort, which includes dual-zone automatic climate control, rearview camera, 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, rear parking sensors, and Nappa leather seats with an electrically adjustable driver seat. The mid-level trim adds advanced driving aids such as automatic high beams and lane-keeping assistance, enhancing both safety and driving comfort.

Safety and warranty

On the safety front, the Chinese SUV features cruise control, tire pressure monitoring, and hill descent control, meeting the expectations of its segment. Additionally, it will retain the official five-year or 100,000 km warranty offered on the X55, providing peace of mind to future Spanish buyers.

Arrival in Spain and expected price

While BAIC has not confirmed an exact launch date, the X7 is expected in Spain during the first half of 2026. Pricing remains unknown, but based on the X55, it could range between €35,000 and €40,000, positioning it as a competitive mid-size SUV option. BAIC’s expansion demonstrates that Chinese automakers are just beginning to make their mark in Europe.
