BMW iX3 2025: the electric SUV that could change everything
The new iX3 debuts as the first model built on BMW’s Neue Klasse platform, a decisive electric commitment designed to raise the bar across the entire segment.

A turning point for BMW with the Neue Klasse platform
Few models mark a generational shift as clearly as the BMW iX3, the first pure electric developed on the new Neue Klasse architecture –a foundation for six electric models arriving before 2028, including the upcoming electric 3 Series saloon. With a 108 kWh battery, 400 kW fast-charging capability and up to 804 km of range, the iX3 is born to redefine not only BMW’s future, but the entire landscape of electric SUVs.
Bold design and an interior ruled by the Panoramic iDrive

BMW’s Neue Klasse design language gives shape to a more elegant and futuristic SUV, featuring a vertical grille, sleek headlights and a completely reworked rear end. Inside, all attention goes to the 17.9-inch Panoramic iDrive, a display that projects instrumentation onto the base of the windscreen, eliminating traditional gauges altogether. While the interior’s clean layout is striking, the heavy dependence on the touchscreen hurts usability, with essential functions –like climate control or airflow direction– hidden beneath menus that often feel too small and unintuitive.
A practical, fast and highly efficient SUV
From a practical standpoint, the iX3 offers a 520-litre boot (expandable to 1,750 litres) plus a 58-litre frunk perfect for charging cables, alongside a spacious and well-resolved cabin. The only version available for now, the iX3 50 xDrive, uses two electric motors producing 462 hp, enabling 0–100 km/h in 4.9 seconds and a top speed of 209 km/h. BMW also claims that 98% of all braking can be done through regeneration, significantly boosting efficiency and making every kilometre an exercise in energy optimisation.
Dynamic behaviour worthy of a BMW, despite its weight
At 2,285 kg, the iX3 could easily feel cumbersome –but it doesn’t. Body control is excellent, the suspension balances firmness with comfort and its cornering behaviour recalls BMW’s best combustion-engined models. In real-world use, its projected consumption would allow over 640 km per charge, a figure that places it ahead of rivals like the Tesla Model Y or the Mercedes EQE SUV.
Conclusion: a brilliant EV that paves the way for an even better BMW
The BMW iX3 leaves a very strong impression: it’s comfortable, extremely easy to drive and remarkably efficient. Its only real weaknesses are some ergonomic quirks and an overreliance on touchscreen controls, but these are outweighed by its electric performance and standout range. If this is the first step for the Neue Klasse, the upcoming i3 –expected to be lighter, more dynamic and more engaging– could be a true game-changer for driving enthusiasts and tech-focused fans, including those who follow innovations inspired by Formula 1.
