50 Jahre Edition: BMW Revives Fantastic Retro Colors on the New M340i xDrive
BMW celebrates the 50th anniversary of its iconic 3 Series with the launch of the M340i xDrive 50 Jahre Edition, a special edition that pays homage to its legacy with exclusive finishes from past generations.
Limited Edition Highlights:
- Historic and Exclusive Paints: The edition includes five fantastic retro color options, never before offered on a modern 3 Series, sourced from the E21 to E90 generations.
- Performance Unchanged: It retains the 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six Mild-Hybrid engine, with 386 hp and 398 lb-ft of torque, achieving 0 to 60 mph in just 4.1 seconds.
A Tribute to Five Decades of Success
The beloved luxury sedan, BMW 3 Series, celebrates five decades of success with a special edition model honoring every generation that came before it. This particular M340i pays tribute to its predecessors with exclusive paint, trim, and wheel options. Buyers can choose from five colors sourced from earlier generations, spanning from the original E21 to the E90.
Exclusive Design and Customization Details
The special 50 Jahre edition features a standard Shadowline Package, which adds adaptive LED headlights and darkened accents on the grille and lower intake. Furthermore, the German brand equips the model with an M Performance carbon-fiber trunk-lid spoiler and M Performance exhaust tips. It also includes 19-inch M dual-spoke wheels and additional “50 Jahre Edition” badging on the boot.
Each exterior color pairs with one of three interior leather options: Black, Ivory, or Tartufo. The interior also features carbon fiber trim and “3 Series 50 Jahre Edition” badging throughout the cabin. This edition marks the first time BMW has offered Extended Merino Leather on the 3 Series, which comes standard on the model. The exterior hue also dictates the brake-caliper finish, either red or blue.

Power and Mechanics Remain Consistent
Performance remains unchanged in this limited edition, which is not a cause for complaint, as the M340i already offers more than enough capability. It keeps its standard turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six mild-hybrid engine. This powertrain produces 386 horsepower and 398 pound-feet of torque. Power is routed through an eight-speed automatic transmission to all four wheels.
Availability and Pricing
BMW is asking $76,375, including destination, for the M340i Jahre Edition. The company has not stated how many units it plans to build, only that production will be limited. The M340i 50 Jahre Edition is slated to hit the road early next year.
