We Drive the New Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross: the 100% Electric Japanese SUV That Redefines Balance and Style

By  |

With 220 hp and an 87 kWh battery, Mitsubishi’s new electric SUV delivers over 600 km of range, a striking design, and a driving experience that blends comfort and confidence in equal measure.

Mitsubishi is stepping firmly into the electric era with the new Eclipse Cross, a mid-size SUV built on the CMF-EV platform developed by the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance. Technically related to the Renault Scenic, the model is initially offered with a 220 hp electric motor and a large 87 kWh battery, capable of delivering up to 635 km of official range. After driving it on the scenic roads of Mallorca, the conclusion is clear: the Eclipse Cross is refined, efficient, and distinctly modern, making it an ideal choice for those seeking a well-balanced, sustainable SUV.

Modern Design and Smart Interior Space

The design of the new Eclipse Cross stands out immediately thanks to its Dynamic Shield front end, where a closed grille and sleek LED headlights create a clean, futuristic look. At the rear, split LED tail lights and a gently sloping roofline add a sporty, coupé-like touch. Measuring 4.49 metres long with a 2.78-metre wheelbase, it offers a spacious and comfortable interior. Inside, digitalisation takes centre stage: a 12-inch digital instrument cluster, another 12-inch infotainment display, a wireless phone charger, and steering wheel paddles for regenerative braking. The result is a modern, intuitive and comfortable cabin, perfectly suited for everyday life.

Balanced Performance and Efficient Power

Under the floor lies a single electric motor producing 220 hp and 300 Nm of torque, powering the front wheels. It accelerates from 0–100 km/h in 7.9 seconds and has a combined energy use of just 16.7 kWh/100 km, a remarkably efficient figure for a vehicle of this size. In our real-world test, the Eclipse Cross averaged 17.5 kWh/100 km, confirming Mitsubishi’s commitment to practical efficiency rather than headline-grabbing numbers. Thanks to its large 87 kWh battery, drivers can comfortably expect more than 450 km of real-world range without range anxiety. A smaller-battery version, with around 170 hp, will join the lineup in 2026.

On the Road: Smooth, Silent and Confident

Behind the wheel, the new Eclipse Cross feels refined, composed and impressively quiet. It shines in urban environments thanks to its smooth acceleration and visibility, but also holds its own on motorways, where stability and comfort take the lead. Its Zero Emissions badge grants unrestricted access to low-emission zones across major European cities — a practical advantage for modern living. Overall, Mitsubishi has achieved an excellent balance between performance, comfort, and efficiency, positioning this SUV as a truly versatile option for both city and long-distance driving.

Equipment, Pricing and Class-Leading Warranty

Mitsubishi keeps things simple with two trims: Kaiteki and Kaiteki+. Even the base version includes 19-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone climate control, privacy glass, roof rails, and more than 20 advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS). The Kaiteki+ trim adds a touch of luxury with 20-inch alloys, vegan leather upholstery, a premium Harman Kardon sound system, a 360° camera setup, and electrically adjustable front seats. Prices start at €32,050 and reach €36,900, including incentives such as Spain’s MOVES III Plan and manufacturer promotions. Every version comes with an eight-year official warranty, among the best in its class. With its refined design, strong efficiency, and accessible pricing, the new Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross is ready to take on Europe’s most competitive electric SUV segment.
