The Future Peugeot 208 Will Look Like This: Goodbye Round Steering Wheel and 31-Inch Screen
The futuristic Peugeot Polygon Concept, shorter than the current E-208, premieres a rectangular “Hypersquare” steering wheel and advanced “steer-by-wire” steering, anticipating the brand’s innovations starting in 2027.
Peugeot has unveiled the Polygon Concept, a bold design study that measures less than four meters in length, making it shorter than the current E-208. This concept is not merely a styling exercise, but a direct preview of future Peugeot vehicles, including the next generation 208. The name Polygon underscores its multifaceted and highly customizable nature. The French brand plans to introduce these key innovations starting in 2027. Furthermore, the company seeks to enhance sustainability and offer an even more “feline” and modern design language.
Hypersquare Steering Wheel: The i-Cockpit Revolution
The most radical innovation is focused on the driver’s cockpit. The rectangular “Hypersquare” steering wheel breaks with more than a century of tradition in automotive design. This component is coupled with the new “steer-by-wire” steering, which eliminates the mechanical link between the wheels and the steering column, using only an electronic cable. This technology, previously seen in the Tesla Cybertruck and Lexus RZ, is the centerpiece of the next-generation i-Cockpit. Only a maximum turn of 170 degrees in each direction is needed, which simplifies maneuvers and increases driving pleasure.
The Polygon Concept’s interior design dispenses entirely with conventional screens. Instead, all information is projected onto the windshield using a Micro-LED head-up display panel. The viewing area is equivalent to an impressive 31-inch screen, allowing the driver to customize the information according to the driving mode (Cruise, Fun, or Hyper). Meanwhile, the traditional three-claw light signature evolves. It now features a horizontal design on both the front and rear, with Micro-LEDs capable of displaying various visual patterns.

Modular Sustainability: Fewer Parts and More Recycling
Peugeot has significantly improved the concept’s sustainability. The vehicle uses a greater amount of recycled materials and is composed of fewer parts than a conventional car, simplifying both production and recycling. The cabin features special mounts for accessories, which enhances its personalization. For example, the Hypersquare steering wheel can be customized in terms of color and material. The interior paint even contains components derived from used tires, and the fabrics come from recycled seats.
The Polygon Concept previews the upcoming Peugeot E-208, which is expected to launch in 2027 on the new STLA Small platform. It is highly probable that the Hypersquare steering wheel and “steer-by-wire” steering will be introduced into production. The new horizontal light signature and the advanced optional head-up display might also be included. However, elements such as the spectacular gull-wing doors or the Micro-LED technology, as presented, are considered less realistic for a mass-production vehicle.
