The Chinese SUV Reviving the Spirit of the Nissan Patrol for Under €35,000
The Dongfeng Paladin clearly draws inspiration from Nissan’s legendary 4x4s and arrives as a tough, well-equipped option with a low price tag—at least outside of Europe.

The Nissan That Isn’t Nissan… But Everyone in Spain Would Want
No, it’s not a Japanese model, although its silhouette could fool anyone. The Dongfeng Paladin is a Chinese off-roader that pays tribute to Nissan’s great 4x4s, especially the Pathfinder. With connectable 4×4 drive and a low-range gearbox, this 4.88-meter-long SUV stands as a serious alternative for those who miss the adventurous spirit of the Patrol or Navara.
A True 4×4 — No Electrification, No Gimmicks
Unlike the current trend toward electrification, the Paladin sticks to pure mechanics. Its 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine delivers 228 hp and 360 Nm of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and six driving modes. Off the road, it boasts 32° approach and 27° departure angles, a 21.5 cm ground clearance, and a rear differential lock that ensures traction even on the toughest terrains.
Comfort and Technology at a Bargain Price
Though built for adventure, the Dongfeng Paladin doesn’t skimp on comfort. A 13-inch vertical touchscreen, automatic climate control, sunroof, 360º cameras, and eco-leather seats are all standard. It also offers a 748-liter trunk, and all of this comes for around €34,300 at the current exchange rate in markets like Ecuador—an unthinkable price for such a 4×4 in Europe.
The Return of the Affordable Off-Roader?
At a time when Nissan no longer sells any true off-road vehicles in Spain, and as Santana Motors prepares its comeback while Mitsubishi works on the new Montero, the Paladin emerges as an unexpected and affordable alternative. If brands like MG, Omoda, or JAECOO managed to carve a niche in the SUV segment, why couldn’t a Chinese 4×4 do the same in Europe?
