SUZUKI JIMNY 3-DOOR RETURNS TO AUSTRALIA WITH MORE TECH AND A HIGHER PRICE

By  |

The compact off-roader, which had vanished from sale for failing to meet new regulations, returns with modest upgrades in technology and safety features.

The Suzuki Jimny 3-Door, a compact off-roader, is highly regarded in Australia. However, this model quietly vanished from sale earlier this year for failing to meet new regulatory standards. Now, following the launch of a mildly refreshed version in Japan, Suzuki has confirmed the short-wheelbase model’s return to the Australian market.

The 2026 Suzuki Jimny lineup will be offered in two familiar trims. The entry-level model, the Lite, now gains a 7-inch infotainment screen. Consequently, it finally loses the nostalgic CD player. The standard Jimny steps up to a larger 9-inch display.

The three-door model benefits from upgraded driver assistance systems. These features were previously limited to the longer 5-Door model. New features include the Dual Sensor Brake Support II system, the Lane Departure Prevention, the Adaptive Cruise Control, and front and rear parking sensors.

Unaffected Off-Road Performance and Retained Value

The vehicle’s underpinnings remain unchanged. Therefore, there is no change to the ladder-frame underpinnings or the engine. The Jimny maintains its naturally aspirated 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine. This engine generates 101 hp (75 kW / 102 PS). Buyers can pair it with either a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic. Both are always connected to a standard part-time 4WD system.

The Jimny’s popularity in Australia is notable. This fact has given it the strongest retained value of any SUV in the country. Some owners have even turned a profit by selling used examples. This is due to limited supply and lengthy waiting lists.

The Return Comes with a Price Bump

Deliveries of the updated Jimny 3-Door are due to begin in February 2026. Prices before on-road costs start at AU$31,990 (equivalent to US$20,700) for the entry-level Lite. The regular manual Jimny begins at the same price, or **AU$36,490** (US$23,600) for the automatic version.

This new price marks an increase of AU$2,000 (US$1,300) over the previous version. Suzuki is banking on strong demand and a lack of direct competitors to justify the bump. Meanwhile, the longer 5-Door Jimny continues as the more practical option for those wanting a little extra space without losing the Jimny’s charm.
