SP40 Restomod: Iconic Auto Sports Resurrects the Spirit of the Ford Model 40 with Modern Hot Rod Technology

By  |

Iconic Auto Sports, a low-volume Argentine manufacturer, has unveiled the SP40 Restomod, a vehicle that draws direct inspiration from the classic 1934 Ford Model 40 Special Speedster.

The company’s goal with the introduction of the SP40 was “not to replicate history, but to awaken it”. The design of the SP40 Restomod looks straight out of the 1930s. However, elements like the wide wheels and modern headlights reveal its contemporary nature. Every curve and mechanical detail reflects the company’s obsession with making an exceptional car to feel, see, and drive.

Beneath its striking design lies a modern Ford heart. The engine is a third-generation 5.0-liter Coyote V8. This powerhouse delivers over 460 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque. Stainless steel components, including long-tube headers, mufflers, and tailpipes, complement the engine.

High-Performance Mechanics

The V8 engine mates with a five-speed Tremec TKO 500/600 manual transmission. The vehicle achieves a curb weight of only 2,623 pounds (1,190 kg) thanks to the use of a carbon-fiber body. To manage this lightness and power, the SP40 features an independent front and rear suspension.

Stopping power comes from Mustang GT350R brakes. This system includes six-piston front and four-piston rear Brembo calipers. The calipers wrap around 15.5- and 14.9-inch cross-drilled discs, respectively. The car uses 20-inch wheels, wrapped in high-performance tires.

Interior Details and Availability

The exposed interior combines premium materials such as aluminum, leather, and wood. The vehicle includes modern and safety features. It features Sparco safety belts and the convenience of wireless phone charging. Iconic Auto Sports designed and crafted each component, making it a truly special vehicle.

Although Iconic Auto Sports is an Argentine company, it maintains an office in the United States. Interested buyers can order a unit through the American office. The pricing is not publicly available, suggesting a high cost due to the bespoke and exclusive nature of the vehicle.
