Real Fuel Consumption Test of the 2025 Nissan X-Trail Mild Hybrid: Space and Comfort vs. Efficiency
The 2025 Nissan X-Trail Mild Hybrid stands out for its ample space, comfort, and equipment, although its real-world fuel consumption does not make it a leader in efficiency.

Nissan X-Trail Mild Hybrid: a spacious, tech-packed SUV
The Nissan X-Trail has always been a reference for those seeking space for passengers and luggage, available in both 5- and 7-seat versions. The new generation, featuring a 1.5-liter 163 hp mild hybrid engine with front-wheel drive, combines comfort and advanced technology, including automatic transmission, 19-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, and ProPILOT Assist with Navi-Link. This entry-level version surprises with its high level of equipment and comfortable driving experience, ideal for families or anyone needing a versatile SUV.
Real fuel consumption: moderate efficiency compared to competitors
In our 360 km test from Rome to Forlì, the mild hybrid X-Trail recorded an average consumption of 5.30 l/100 km (18.87 km/l), costing €28.41 in fuel. This result places it in the lower-middle range of light hybrid SUVs, tied with the CUPRA Formentor 1.5 Hybrid 150 hp and ahead of models such as the MINI Countryman C and Nissan Qashqai Mild Hybrid. However, competitors like the Renault Austral, Alfa Romeo Tonale, and Peugeot 3008 Hybrid achieve more efficient consumption, showing that the X-Trail prioritizes space and comfort over fuel economy.
Performance, smoothness, and premium features
We tested the X-Trail Mild Hybrid 2WD 7-seater N-Connecta, a higher trim with eco-leather seats, tri-zone climate control, panoramic sunroof, Head-Up Display, and electric tailgate. Its 1.5-liter three-cylinder turbo engine with 163 hp delivers adequate performance and smooth driving, although the weight of nearly 1.6 tons is noticeable in fast corners. Options like the Premium Pack with Bose sound system and metallic paint raise the price to €38,682, offering in return a large, comfortable, and technologically advanced SUV.
Fuel tank and range
The mild hybrid X-Trail shows a certain thirst for fuel, especially in urban traffic and on highways. Thanks to its 55-liter tank, theoretical range reaches 670 km on highways and up to 1,336 km in eco-driving conditions, depending on driving style. In mixed conditions, the SUV achieves 753 km of range with 7.3 l/100 km consumption, showing that the large tank partially offsets the higher fuel consumption.
Fuel consumption summary in different scenarios
- Mixed urban-extraurban: 7.3 l/100 km → theoretical range 753 km
- Highway: 8.2 l/100 km → theoretical range 671 km
- Eco-driving: 4.1 l/100 km → theoretical range 1,336 km
- Average real consumption: 5.30 l/100 km (18.87 km/l)
- Actual cost: €28.41 for 360 km; €63.13 monthly (800 km)
The 2025 Nissan X-Trail Mild Hybrid is a spacious, comfortable, and well-equipped SUV, perfect for those who prioritize functionality and technology, although its fuel efficiency falls short compared to some of its direct rivals.
