Ram Launches a New Compact Pickup in Europe Before the U.S.

By  |

The American brand introduces a more urban-friendly model to conquer Europe’s streets with the Ram Rampage.

Ram already operates in several European markets through its distributor KW Auto, though its large 1500 and Heavy Duty models have limited appeal due to their size. In contrast, the Ram Rampage, measuring 5,028 mm (198 inches) in length, is better suited to Europe’s narrower streets. It offers a balance between everyday usability and off-road capability, promising higher sales potential for the brand.

Positioned Between SUVs and Midsize Pickups

Stellantis describes the Rampage as “a bold new entry into the compact lifestyle pickup segment,” designed to combine the practicality of an SUV with the ruggedness of a pickup. The vehicle is positioned between C-SUVs and midsize pickups, filling a previously underrepresented niche in the market and opening new commercial opportunities.

Brazilian Heritage and Shared Platform

The Rampage debuted in June 2023 as Ram’s first vehicle fully designed and built in Brazil, built on the Small Wide unibody platform shared with the Fiat Toro, Jeep Compass, Jeep Commander, Alfa Romeo Tonale, and Dodge Hornet. In South America, buyers can choose between turbocharged diesel or gasoline engines, both paired with a nine-speed automatic gearbox and all-wheel drive, offering efficiency and versatility.

European Preview at Verona

The Brazilian-built pickup will make its European debut at Fieracavalli, the horse exhibition in Verona, Italy, from November 6 to 9. Stellantis describes this as a “European preview”, with final specifications, trim options, and pricing expected to be announced during the event. The model displayed so far is the Rebel trim in red, though region-specific updates may be introduced for the European market.

No Immediate Plans for the U.S. Market

While there were rumors that the Rampage might arrive in the U.S. to compete with the Ford Maverick and Hyundai Santa Cruz, import tariffs made that unfeasible. In North America, Ram is focusing on a new ladder-frame midsize pickup, a potential successor to the Dakota, which will compete with the Ford Ranger, Toyota Tacoma, Chevrolet Colorado, GMC Canyon, and Nissan Frontier. Meanwhile, in South America, Ram has already unveiled a new Dakota built on a ladder-frame chassis sourced from China.
