Ram Enters the SUV Market: A Full-Size Model Inspired by the Jeep Grand Wagoneer
The truck brand is preparing its first full-size SUV for 2028, combining luxury, power, and advanced technology.
Historically focused on pickups and vans, Ram is set to expand its lineup with a full-size SUV, expected in 2028, according to Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa. The model will be built at the Warren Truck Assembly Plant in Michigan, where the Jeep Grand Wagoneer is currently produced, following a $13 billion investment plan that includes nearly $100 million for factory retooling.
Top-Level Platform and Mechanics
While technical details remain limited, Filosa confirmed the SUV will feature a body-on-frame platform, similar to the Grand Wagoneer, capable of delivering impressive towing and payload capacity. It will also offer both traditional combustion engines and a range-extended electric option, mirroring Jeep’s powertrain lineup.
Ram Expands into Strategic Segments
This SUV is part of Stellantis’ strategy to reposition Ram in key markets, including midsize trucks and large SUVs. Its introduction allows Ram to compete in a segment where the combination of luxury, capability, and technology is increasingly in demand by modern consumers.

Possible Name and SRT Lineup
Though not yet confirmed, the SUV may carry the historic Ramcharger name, previously planned for a range-extended hybrid truck. Filosa also confirmed the launch of two new SRT models, including the successor to the 1500 TRX, alongside a second high-performance vehicle–likely a street-oriented sport truck.
A Promising Future for Ram
With this expansion, Ram clearly signals that it aims to dominate not only pickups but also full-size SUVs and high-performance vehicles. The combination of luxurious engineering, off-road capability, and advanced powertrain options positions the brand as a top choice for drivers seeking versatility, performance, and exclusivity.
