Porsche Completely Restores a Rare First-Generation Manual Cayenne GTS
The vehicle in question is a rare 2009 Cayenne GTS with a manual gearbox. This represents a change in focus for the program, which has historically concentrated on sports cars like the 911.
Porsche has established additional revenue streams by heavily investing in its customization program. The Sonderwunsch (special request) division traces its roots back to 1978. This program has since expanded to cover both new and older vehicles across three layers.
A factory re-commission is intended for older vehicles in need of a refresh. That is the case with the 2009 Cayenne , which represents the first time Porsche has spruced up its original SUV through the Sonderwunsch division. This 16-year-old luxobarge was thoroughly revitalized both mechanically and cosmetically.
Retro Design and Bespoke Customization
The E1-generation Cayenne has been resprayed in Blackolive. This is a paint-to-sample color that is contrasted by matte black accents. The American owner, Phillip Sarofim, wanted to give his posh SUV a 1970s vibe. He even asked for a towbar to be retrofitted.
Additionally, all-terrain tires are noticeable on the vehicle. This is a fitting upgrade, considering how the original Cayenne proved competent off the beaten path. This capability is due to a low-range transfer case and a locking rear differential.
Exclusive Interior and Unique Details
The owner splurged on a fully refreshed interior. The upholstery is leather-to-sample English Green. This leather features an instantly recognizable black/olive Pasha pattern. This pattern even extends into the glovebox.
Elsewhere, the OG Cayenne now sports freshly applied light-brushed aluminum accents. These details adorn the door cards.

The Rarity of the Manual Gearbox in a Porsche SUV
The best part of this restoration is its gearbox. This Cayenne GTS is a rare version with a six-speed manual gearbox. It is safe to say a Porsche SUV with three pedals is highly unlikely to happen again. However, it is worth noting the second-generation model (E2) did offer a manual for the base version.
Combining the stick with low mileage and the Sonderwunsch treatment makes it instantly one of the most desirable Cayennes out there. It made its public debut during the fifth Icons of Porsche festival in the Dubai Design District. There, it shared the spotlight with a two-tone Panamera, which was also customized through Sonderwunsch.
