Pininfarina Reimagines the Legendary Honda NSX with a Carbon-Fiber Body That Blends Nostalgia and Modern Performance

By  |

The iconic Japanese sports car returns with a carbon body, a tuned V6 engine, and Pininfarina’s unmistakable Italian flair.

More than four decades after their first collaboration, Honda and Pininfarina have joined forces once again, this time alongside JAS Motorsport, to reimagine the iconic Honda NSX NA1—one of the most influential sports cars of the 1990s. The first official images reveal a design that stays true to the essence of the original, while modernising its proportions and lines with a sharper, more aggressive attitude.

The new, fully carbon-fibre bodywork is more muscular, featuring larger air intakes, a vented bonnet, and pop-up headlights that pay homage to the classic NSX. Despite its updated look, it retains key heritage details such as the signature hoop rear spoiler and the black canopy roof, both timeless hallmarks of the NSX lineage.

Tuned V6 Power and a Sharper, More Planted Stance

Rather than completely reinventing the powertrain, Pininfarina and JAS have refined Honda’s original V6 engine, which now promises to deliver well over the 270 hp (274 PS) claimed by the 1990 original—offering a more potent and sophisticated driving experience. It’s paired with a six-speed manual gearbox, staying loyal to the purist philosophy that made the NSX a driver’s car through and through, and will be available in both left- and right-hand drive configurations. Chassis tuning has also been a priority. Engineers have addressed the original model’s narrow rear track and long rear overhang, giving this reinterpretation a broader, more confident stance that greatly improves balance and visual presence. The result is a car that feels more modern, more composed, and unmistakably performance-focused.

Classic Design, Modern Soul

While the exterior remains instantly recognisable as a nod to late-80s and 90s design, the cabin promises a more comfortable, contemporary approach, without turning it into a stripped-down track car. According to Pininfarina, the new NSX “will be a road car with the soul of a supercar,” leaving room for a more hardcore, track-focused variant later on. Every aspect of the project reflects a perfect fusion of Italian elegance and Japanese precision—a combination only two legendary names like these could achieve. Material quality, aerodynamic refinement, and craftsmanship are set to define this reborn icon.

2026: A Year to Remember for NSX Enthusiasts

The reimagined NSX by Pininfarina and JAS Motorsport will make its official global debut in the first half of 2026, with pricing and production numbers still under wraps. Interestingly, Italdesign is also working on its own NSX reinterpretation, making 2026 a milestone year for fans of Honda’s iconic sports car. Two Italian design houses reimagining a Japanese legend—it’s a dream come true for classic car aficionados who grew up with the unmistakable roar of Honda’s V6 engine.
