New Volvo EX90 2026: More Power, No 5-Seater Option and an 800V Battery to Challenge the Tesla Model X

The Swedish electric SUV gets more power, cutting-edge technology and an 800-volt architecture that redefines charging speed and performance.

The Volvo EX90 2026 arrives loaded with innovations that reinforce its status as the flagship electric SUV of the Scandinavian brand. This update brings major changes to the range: the model drops the five-seat layout, now offering six- or seven-seat configurations only, and adopts a new 800V electrical architecture, significantly improving charging speed and overall efficiency. With these upgrades, the EX90 takes the fight to heavyweights such as the Tesla Model X, Kia EV9, Mercedes EQS SUV and BMW iX.

In terms of performance, the Single Motor rear-wheel-drive version produces 333 hp and 480 Nm of torque, sprinting from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.8 seconds. It is powered by a 92 kWh gross (88 kWh net) battery, delivering a 572 km WLTP range, which can reach up to 744 km in urban driving. This version supports 310 kW DC fast charging and 11 kW AC home charging.

Up to 680 hp and Nearly 800 km of Urban Range

Above that sit the Twin Motor AWD versions, offering all-wheel drive and performance worthy of a sports EV. The first produces 456 hp and 670 Nm, while the Performance model reaches 680 hp and 870 Nm, enabling 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.2 seconds. Both use the new 106 kWh gross (102 kWh net) battery pack, providing up to 620 km WLTP and 772 km in city driving, along with ultra-fast 350 kW DC charging capability.

A new electrochromic panoramic roof, upgraded safety systems, and a 14.5-inch central touchscreen infotainment system enhance the EX90’s already advanced cabin, reinforcing Volvo’s philosophy of minimalist luxury and sustainable innovation.

Equipment, Safety and Scandinavian Refinement

The line-up is divided into three trims: Core, Plus, and Ultra. Even the entry-level version offers an exceptional list of features, including keyless access and start, power-adjustable heated seats, four-zone climate control, 20-inch alloy wheels, panoramic roof, wireless charger and digital key. Safety is, as always with Volvo, top priority, with systems such as cross-traffic alert, lane keeping assist, fatigue detection, adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition and collision prevention — all integrated with Volvo’s latest LiDAR safety suite.

The New Benchmark Among Premium Electric SUVs

The Volvo EX90 2026 doesn’t just improve in power and efficiency — it establishes itself as one of the safest and most technologically advanced electric SUVs on the market. Its new seven-seat configuration, combined with the leap to 800V architecture, proves Volvo’s ongoing commitment to innovation, sustainability, and Scandinavian comfort. Prices for Spain will be announced soon, but everything suggests the EX90 will compete directly with the top-spec Tesla Model X and Mercedes EQS SUV.
