New Gearbox and Battery Upgrade! Prices Revealed

By  |

The 2025 Peugeot 408 PHEV arrives with key technical upgrades that boost efficiency and refinement, strengthening its position as one of the most balanced plug-in hybrids on the market.

The new Peugeot 408 2025 showcases the brand’s commitment to innovation and electrification. This crossover, which blends the elegance of a fastback saloon with the practicality of an SUV, introduces a new dual-clutch automatic gearbox (e-DCS7) and a larger-capacity battery, representing a major leap over the outgoing version. As a result, the model now offers an electric-only range of up to 84 km (WLTP) and stands as a serious alternative to rivals such as the CUPRA Formentor and Renault Arkana.

Upgraded Hybrid Powertrain and Extended Electric Range

The updated 408 Plug-in Hybrid retains the proven 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 180 hp, paired with an electric motor rated at 92 kW (125 hp) for a combined output of 225 hp. The big news lies in the replacement of the previous eight-speed EAT8 gearbox with a seven-speed e-DCS7 dual-clutch transmission, offering smoother shifts and improved efficiency. The new 17.2 kWh (14.6 kWh usable) battery replaces the old 12.4 kWh unit, significantly improving both range and energy performance.

This translates into impressive figures: the Peugeot 408 PHEV 2025 can now cover up to 98 km in urban driving, with full charging times of 4 hours 20 minutes at 3.7 kW or 2 hours 5 minutes at 7.4 kW. When fully charged, it returns an official consumption of just 0.9 l/100 km, while delivering 360 Nm of torque to the front wheels.

Performance and Equipment Levels

The Peugeot 408 Plug-in Hybrid 225 e-DCS7 sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.5 seconds and reaches a top speed of 233 km/h, impressive figures for a model that prioritises efficiency and comfort. Two trim levels are available: Allure and GT. The entry-level Allure version comes generously equipped, featuring six airbags, keyless entry and start, Full LED headlights, a rear-view camera, a 10-inch HD touchscreen, and Android Auto/Apple CarPlay connectivity.

The GT version adds sportier styling, enhanced interior finishes, and exclusive design details. Both variants proudly wear the Zero Emissions badge, granting unrestricted access to low-emission zones in major cities. With the 2025 Peugeot 408, the brand continues to push toward electrification without sacrificing design or driving pleasure. It’s a formula that continues to captivate those who value innovation, efficiency, and unmistakable French character on the road.
